did that... filled with foam, then did two layers of 8.5 under that area. and since i hit bottom so many times i reinforced the nose... one layer of 8.5 oz inside the entire nose area, then one layer of 26oz - i had to pretty much reconstruct it. then the outside with a Taylor Curtis carbon...
when i did mine last winter i did this:
-roughed the sides with 60 grit and cleaned
-filled bond line with epoxy mixed with 410 filler
-1 layer 8.5 oz biaxiale - 4" wide strip over the bond line
-1 layer 8.5 oz biaxiale - 8" wide strip over that
-1 layer 12.5 oz texalium - full side -...
hell yeah... this way you two can get back to riding and not wasting time.
tomorrow SW winds, 4 - 6 foot, high temp 67 degrees - sturgeon point is where i'll be around 5pm
cool... thanks... what's optimum temp/humidity? I did my SN in the winter in the shop heated with a wood burning stove, about 85 degrees in there... low humidity...
ok, so one more question then...
2 lb foams saves 4.5 lbs of total weight - but structurally how would it hold up against a rider's weight and pounding on it? i mean 4.5lbs is 4.5lbs... LOL
i was thinking the same thing. i'd rather use SMC panel adhesive and maybe some SS pan head bolts with nyloc nuts on the inside... with a small backer plate for each. or would that be overkill?
not to threadjack, but do tubbies come with a backer plate of some kind? are they just screwed in or bolted?
nevermind, just scrolled down further to see all the pics... i see screws...
that's what i used on my SN a few years back... the back end felt heavy to me though. anyone ever use the 2lb kit? I was thinking about doing this on my new RN project, and adding a little extra reinforcement under the tray.
