pretty much, I dont remember where I heard it from but I think the sewers dump directly into the water there, and it stinks too. I could be totally wrong though, maybe someone thats been there can clear this up.

From what I've heard about venice I dont think youd want to be getting in that water. Never been there myself jsut what I've heard.
