The stock siphon pump system has been disabled by disconnecting the hose from the reduction nozzle and bunging it. So no unexplained water since then.
If I am in rough conditions like waves or whatnot and the ski goes over on side and I do not get it righted right away then it seems I can get...
@Big Kahuna - I decided to try to improve the system by extending the hose and adding a check valve.
The check valve is blue in the picture and I added a small loop of (black)hose before the exit vent. The check valve is at the topmost part of the loop.
Any water that might come in the...
Yeah, best practice would be to use a longer hose and route it up a bit before exit just as you suggest. That was the hose that came with the bilge pump kit (along with the pump, the handlebar switch, and the electrical connections including fuse and waterproof fuse case). If it seems water...
I installed a bilge pump to the SJ4
Key was cutting out the right foam to allow that the pump could go as low as possible in bilge (note that in the pump location I cut the foam right down to floor), and also some just starboard of the the pump to allow the pump to be a squeezed down into the...
Working on this ski again now. I have pulled the gas tank and trying to decide whether it would be easier to pull the water box too, to help cap off exit to front exhaust and as well get better access to the inside left for the fiberglass work. Looking for the easiest route overall. Is...
Hello - i am not sure what you meant by a removable plate. Were you meaning as a way to leave an option to later go back remove sponsons and put back the front exhaust?
I had been thinking in terms of permanent patch and commit to the sponsons. I have destroyers on my SJ4 and this was what...
To each his own. That is not a link to anything of mine. It is a link to someone's post in a Facebook SJ4 performance group. I knew of it and posted it here given your OP.
Hi John -
How do you separate the reduction nozzle from the pump case?
The service manual, sadly, makes no mention of this in the pump disassembly section. I have found this very difficult - much more difficult than getting the case off the transom wall. There does not seem anywhere to...
The spline sizing is common to shafts / impellers for many skis. For Solas the impeller is YJ YH series. Solas calls tool WR001. Yamaha’s is called YB-06552. There others with same specs. I got mine from @tomski
Ok thank you very much. I was thinking the pump could not go there because of the steering cable. It looks like Takaai moved his steering cable so it is not routed through that hole in the white plastic midshaft bracket. I do not think the pump can fit there otherwise. I guess I will have to...
@Big Kahuna - I don't know that this makes any difference but, would you please tell me exactly how your siphon hose is routed from the transom to the reduction nozzle? Specifically, at the top of the reduction nozzle starboard of center there is another little connection tube sticking up...
Yes. I think the hole is meant to serve as you indicate BK. The hole was definitely clear just prior to when i reinstalled the right angle connection, as I had completely removed it and was able to blow air through it. There is so much water in the hull in such a short time, that it seems like...
yes, will do but I will not be able to do the job until the week of July 15th.
The kit comes with a 500 gpm Rule 25DA pump. I do not have the pump yet so see exactly what might work, but I have some concerns because it is very tight spaces around the bottom of the hull where it might go, On...
The other day, I tried to fix this and disconnected the right angle piece at the top of the siphon hoses just under the rim. This piece is not a valve, it is just makes a right angle bend in the flow and has a small hole in one side of it -- i guess this to allow the water to drain back out...
Update: some joy yesterday, with experimentation confirming the problem is the siphon bilge running in reverse!
I unhooked the siphon hose from the reduction nozzle and used a twist on electrical wire connector (marrette) as a bung and secured that in the hose with a bit of Tuck tape. Then I...
Yes, VK Composites carbon fiber.
The steering is a Riva over pivot kit (virtually same as RRP) combined with a steering cable with more throw and bracket kit I got from @tomski. A huge handling improvement.
I wrote about the cable and bracket here...
