Turns out my low speed screws had the wrong o-rings which screwed up my tuning. I went back to the Group K jets and setting recommendations stock jetting L=72.5 H=132.5 3/4 turns out on both screws and it's pretty close now for a stock SXR with the 849 big bore and Tau Ceti air filters. Plug...
If someone has the 40-I's or a single Mikuni 46 SBN I'm still interested. Otherwise I'll just look for another 40-I's intake manifold and call it good.
Group K has two pretty thorough write ups on carb tuning. I'd start there. Also did you do a leak down test on your motor. If it isn't tight, you will never get it to work right or worse. If everything else on your ski is working correctly it sounds like you have a lean or rich condition on the...
I have the same setup and are going through the carb tuning thing to. Group K sends them out with stock jetting L=72.5 H=132.5. They use the stock 1.5 NS and drop from the stock 80gm spring to the 65gm spring. They say 3/4 turn both low and high after break in. I started at 1 1/2 low and high...
I'm building a spare backup SXR 800 motor. I have everything but the carbs and manifold. For a backup I'd like something nice, but reasonable in price. Stock 40-I's would work, but I would consider other setups.
I had technical difficulties once (well more than once) with a Kawi 550 and I was glad it had a blowout plate and that it was chained to the hood. Otherwise I never would have found it or it could have hurt someone (probably me).
People may or may not appreciate this level of detail.
The Kawasaki's use the JIS (Japaneses) standard threads which are interchangeable with the BSPT (British) standard. JIS is very difficult to find so most people will use BSTP which is more available in the US.
While JIS and BSTP are...
The 650 had room under the hood over the engine. That basket is pretty deep. I doubt it would fit a SXR. Plus you have to drill a bunch of hoiles through the hood to mount it. But the cap with a handhold is pretty cool!
Yes 1/8 NPT not 1/4 NPT would be the closest. I'm still pretty sure the stock fittings are something else very close to the 1/8 NPT. I should probably just go with the 1/8 NPT on the new hole and fitting and not worry about it. Thanks
These guys made one for a 650SX way back when. I got one, but bought a 750SXI before I got around to installing it.
Kawasaki Jet Ski SX 650 Jet Sport Quick Access Storage Compartment Part# 7952
I need an extra cooling line tapped into a 750 head for an SXR. I think it's a JIS / BSTP 1/4-19, but can't find it for sure anywhere. I could just use a 1/4 NPT, but I'd prefer not mix fittings.
I'd like to know if normally you can use these out of the box or do you usually need to bore or hone them to the finished STD size?
I'm sure an inspection and bore measurement would be mandatory. I've just never bought an OEM replacement cylinder, so I don't know how they come from the factory
