Bendix Engages, Spins Engine 1-2 Revolutions, then Disengages and just Spins Starter ?

You dont need to shake it, rattle it or roll it. A bendix in your hand takes all of a minute to fully inspect and check for all proper working conditions. You don't know if the weight separator plate is on its way out tho. You don't ever want any loose metal flying around in there. I've seen many a stator get taken out that way. It only takes one tiny slice of a wire. Mostly kawi 750 . Usually I sell stators to the dummy stuffing flywheel puller bolts thru the coils.

Can you share how you inspect a bendex?

I take a 2 second look at it , with my buzzard eye vision, since I've handled a thousand of them. You actually don't even need to see it. It can be inspected by a blind man by touch only, if you know how its supposed to be.
Feel the proper resistance when turning the small gear. Feel for the spring and proper gap between the weights. Feel for a loose drum or missing gear teeth.

These are easily repairable depending on what is going on with them, I usually get a stack of them laying around and pull them apart and build a few good ones out them to sit on the shelf.
