Starter Motor Sealant?

Just noticed my project ski motor has no starter on it, has anyone tried any other brands of starter motors on their SJ or is OEM the only way to go? I know that some try to use a sleeve instead of needle bearings like OEM which shortens their life significantly. Didn’t know if there were some aftermarket starters that last as long or better than OEM at a similar price.

Alright I picked up an oem starter, do you add any sort of silicone or sealant around it to ensure no water gets into the bendix area? I don’t really trust that one little o ring to do the trick

I always put marine grease all over the end and shove it in... never had a problem. You'll be good to go since it has a new o-ring.
