89 js550 got it from my uncles yard..did some some work and it runs awesome for 20yrsold. starts up one push and doesn't shut off. but when i have the garden hose hooked up to it water comes out of the exhaust and the pisser..but once its in the water it doesnt pull in water and keeps over...

i have a js550 89 and runs fine and all that but when i plug a garden hose into the engine it shoots water out of the pisser and the exhaust..but once its in the water, no water comes out either hole...i'm new to this so any help would be appreciated, is clogged or old lines the only thing...
