engine spooge

anyone else experience anything similar to this brownish rust colored shizz on their engine? I've already replaced a rusted out lord mount that I thought was the cause...to no avail. The only other spot of rust anywhere on the engine is two non ss screws on the clamps around the Prok F/A's... and that doesn't seem to be the cause either. Stuff rubs off somewhat easily.

Are you saying the engine spooge rubs out easily?

:sneaky:

yup...rubs off fairly easily...usually scrub it off during engine washdown or with lube spray/ towel.

and..just looked again and noticed the same rust shizz on the UMI steering on the hood (B1). So, when the hoods down, maybe it drips down onto the engine block. I'm guessing there's a non ss washer or bushing in there somewhere that is possibly the culprit?

Reed,

When I was riding your B1 on Sunday I definitely noticed you needed new bearings in your UMI. I bet that could be the problem. Just pick up two new bearings and order a new o-ring from UMI. Those are the three parts you need to rebuild a B1 UMI Steering System.

I looked into purchasing the bearings locally at a bearing shop, but it really wasn't any cheaper than purchasing them from UMI so I bought the UMI ones.

Have fun getting the old bearings out and don't forget to leave the nut on the shaft when hammering it out with a 2X4 so you don't mess up the threads.

If you have any questions call me on the phone and I'll walk you through it. It really is pretty easy to do as long as everything isn't locked up in there.

You should have come. You were more than welcome. I just thought you weren't a big fan of htting up an island and riding flatwater. Next time I'll shoot you and Ollie a PM instead of just throwing up a post like the one below:

My girlfriend is coming home with me for the weekend along with her sister and her sister's boyfriend so there is a really good chance I'll be taking the boat and ski's to an island to spend either Saturday or Sunday.

I sent you that google map awhile back. You more than welcome to come out to the island with or without your ski's and do some riding/grilling. Kay is more than welcome to come too (sorry if I didn't spell her name right).

That invite is welcome to Tim and Ollie as well and all "left coasters" for that matter.

Hope to ride with you guys this weekend. Hopefully that storms slows up and we can hit up Dunedin on Saturday. If it looks like it'll hit Friday then I'll skip class on Friday and drive down early Friday morning to ride with you guys.

Wahoo:

Big, big, big, big, big, big deal:
Go to a bearing supply store and match up what you have, spend the extra cash and order some stainless bearings that have stainless casings. The casing on the bearings rust w/o some kind of inhibitor. The lesser quality chinese bearings are fine since it isn't for some kind of wheel or mechanical setup.

If you can, PM me with the bearing part number so I can add it to the reference library.

rmbcracing has a fix for UMI bearing issue (CHEAP) 2 stainless washers and a urethane washer. No more grease no more carbon steel crappy bearing, look him up and he will hook you up.
