please help me tune this bog away

i have an 04 sxr. i have a wet pipe, v-foce reeds, prop and stock jetting. i always have a bog at bottom end...always..i have to feather the throttle constantly to keep the rpms up so i can pull out of the water. once the power kicks in, its great. if i tip over or submarine it, it takes even longer for it to kick in. like 6 or 7 seconds. what is wrong with it? how do i fix this? i want instant throttle response. it never did this when it was stock. what do i do? i tried leaning out the low speed jets and it seemed like it helped on smooth water, but then i rode it again the next day in choppier water and it felt just as bad as it has always been, maybe worse

Do you run aftermarket Flame Arrestors? If so and you did not adjust your pop off pressure, then this is where the bog is coming from on the stock carbs.

Don't you have to change the jetting for the pipe? Contact Factory pipe for the correct jets. They should be much bigger than stock.

You have to do 2 things when you install this pipe. Rejet and change the water fitting on your pump to flow more water.

DJ has my old Wet Pipe. When I installed it, put the jets in. Set the carbs to FPP spec'd. Put it in the water. Did not touch anything again.

Yup, factory pipe jetting is 80 low and 152.5 high. That is where I am running mine although I am a touch rich on top. I also had to install a 2.0 N/S with the stock spring to get rid of the low end hesitation off idle. Also the jetworks flow control valve installed on the stinger helped out.

I haven't touched mine since!! :pancake: Get the directions from Factory Pipe and follow them to a T. You are missing out on sooooo much power.

Pop off is the amount of pressure it takes to move needle up from the seat therefor allowing more fuel through. It is adjusted my replacing the spring with others of different tenstions (80gram, 90gram, etc.) You can test your popoff by using a tester as shown here - http://www.watcon.com/Catalog_Pages/High_Pressure_High_Volume_Pump.htm

As others have stated, start with FFP jetting recommendations and go from there. If you still have a lean hesitation from idle on then I would try to lower poppoff or increase your needle and seat

I agree i would start by using FPP jetting specs. Next i would reset your popoff pressure to a lower amount if the bog still remains. Good luck with the fix.

You need to pull the little black cap off the end of the adjuster screws. Under the cap you will find a flat blade screw made of brass. Better yet, install some t-handle screw adjusters so you can adjust without removing the carbs.
