Need Help - SJ 650 squarenose - AF parts

Location
Europe
Hi guys,

I am new on this forum, but I have been reading it for quite some time now.
My problem is that I haven't been able to figure some things out. See, I have trouble understanding some words, because I am from Europe and dont really know these mechanical "terms" for parts.
So I would be really gratefull If someone was kind enough to explain to me which aftermarket parts are compatible with my old SJ 650 squarenose so that I can look it up in the marketplace section.
I want to gain on power so I am looking for any good advice from you experts.
Also please Pm me if you have any parts for me.

Thank you guyz, you 'd be doing me a big favour.:usa:

well...i speak proper english in person, my parents live in Australia, i am in the state though. I dont type to good though..... i had a friend that attempted to get power gains out of his 650. in his experience he had no luck. it may have been something he did improperly, i know they used to race them so there must be something. i would simply suggest putting a 701 in your ski....it will fit right in, then build it like everyone else is. my friend put a "Factory" B pipe on his 650 and it hurt its more than it helped. Factory is a brand of exhaust manufacture. if you shave the cylinder head alittle to raise the compression up to around 175psi, lighten the flywheel (look up Group-k). I will probably make someone made by saying there may not be much hope for the 650 in the area of alot of performance gains, the parts may be around but i bet they will be hard to find for the 650 specifically. hope this helps...if not tell me off.................;-)

since we are speaking proper english "good day sir" welcome to the forum.

as for what you can do to your motor there is a multitude of things you can. if you want the best bang for your euro/gbp i would suggest doing a 701 conversion with a milled head, factory b pipe, rejetted and modified carbs aftermarket flame arrestors and an msd enhanced module. as far as handling goes intake grate, ride plate, a prop matched to your combination.

if you want to stick with the current motor, mill your head, add a pipe, rejet the carbs and add flame arrestors along with an msd enhancer ignition module

as far as a b- pipe working or not working its personal preference, if they are not set-up properly they will obviously hurt you instead of helping you.

if you want to take it to the extreme you can do a roundnose top deck conversion from the Watercraft Factory

MIle,
There's absolutely nothing wrong with running a 650. The 701 does have more potential and makes more power but a 650 can be fun for low Euro.

Look for an aftermarket pipe, just about any pipe as long as you don't spend too much. A B-pipe would be best and you can use it on your future 701 build (yep, it will happen) but a Coffmans Sizzler or a Pro-Tec pipe will work. It's all about how much you want to spend.

Mill your stock head to gain more compression. The 650 can take quite a bit of compression before detonation becomes an issue but to be safe aim for 185 PSI.

Bump your timing by about 3mm counter clockwise from the factory setting.

I ran a Solas Concord 12/15 3mm setback prop and it worked just about perfect for my 650. Again, depending on your funds you might consider a Hooker prop from Impros.

You could play a bit with the routing of your cooling lines and how much water gets sent to your water box, I ran mine pretty dry and it did help on the bottom end.

An MSD Enhancer is a nice thing to have but you can always modify your stock CDI and remove the rev limiter.

That right there will be a good start and you'll have a 650 that won't be afraid of many 701's.
A simple thing like removing the hood liner and making a lighter one plus running a smaller battery will make a huge difference to the way the ski rides.
A waterbox from a round nose SJ will help you lose some weight off the nose and a handle pole from a round nose will greatly improve the feel.

There are a few other tricks worth trying but get these done first.
