300/440/550 550 SX overheating?

Hey guys...

Im having a little problem here....

So i put my ski (1990 550sx-stock) has been running excellent all summer long. I just had it in the ocean last week (i flush thoroughly after every ocean session)

I put it in the water today and noticed about 60 seconds in that there was no water coming out of my exit nozzle on the left side of the nose...ARGH!

i took it back in just as she was starting to overheat.

I hooked the hose up to it, and water comes out fine, and she stays cool.

so is my pump shot? i see all the hoses are hooked up fine...how could my pump just go like that?

also i have a 440 laying around...will a 440 pump work on a 550 hull?

the line that brings the water from the pump to the engine for cooling might be clogged. check the fitting that goes into the pump also.

i still have to take the pump off to check that anyway right?

are there any writeups on exactly how to take off the pump. i don't wanna go ruining something thats not broken lol

take the ride plate off and you will be able to get to the hose. or you could take the cooling line off the head and blow or use compressed air to see if it is clogged.

pull that hose off and test. the water hose you hooked up didnt send water through this line so that might be where the problem is

Got her running again!
LONG LIVE THE 550! lol

after blowing through the hose (while motor connection was disconnected obviously...) i found that it was not clogged.

i got a little worried, but plugged the other end on purpose, and blew again...

i was still able to blow air through it so i knew i had a leak. after close inspection i found a split in the hose towards the end. cut off the end & re attached & tried to test her in the water.

she wouldn't start now LoL
pulled plugs...cleaned em off (they were soaked, i must have flooded it...), kicked her over and started right up.
water coming out of the nozzle perfectly.
