300/440/550 WTF is this?!?

So I bought this 550 from a guy who had bought it from another guy and it hadn't touched water since 04'. I figured for the $100 I was spending, I could stand to make a little profit considering I had a ton of spare aftermarket parts laying around. The ski is totally stock and was missing a starter. I pulled the engine today so I can run a compression test and put in a starter. Right away I noticed this little black bulb thing attached to the same bracket as the fuel separator bowl. One fuel line from goes in from the on/reserve valve and a small primer like fuel line goes out into the carb. There's also wires that go into it from the carb side of the e-box. I can't seem to get the pics to upload because the file is too large. What I'm wondering is if I can disconnect this. I'm sure that I can, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with the wires though. I know I can get rid of the separator bowl and just use an inline filter but I want to make sure I don't ruin anything by leaving the wires unattached.
I'm also wondering if there's supposed to be a gasket between the starter flange and the flange it bolts to off the bottom case.
Thanks for all the help

Can I get rid of it? I see there's a line in out of the gas tank, and then two that go into the carb ( one large and one small like a primer line)
You can, but as I recall the restrictor jet is in that assembly for the carb, part of the return line. The small tube dumps raw fuel in the motor when revs get high limiting the brap.

Funny....I think I'm just going to keep a charged spare with the jumper cables on the beach. We riding saturday?

That's the plan.

I should finally have the Pink Squarenose done.
By then I should also have my new lightweight battery in. Keep those jumper cables handy.

sano? as in, just sano to kawis?

wouldnt simply plugging the line that goes back to the carb create too much back pressure after the pump, since the fuel has no place to "return" to at high rpms, thus possibly flooding past the nas?

No plug the small line that goes to the carb from the limiter, thats the way we used to do it,it worked fine and your restriction for the return line stays intact. The way that thing works is it senses rpm, when the rpm is over the limit it injects fuel into the carb to lower the rpms,I have had them inject fuel at the wrong rpms. The best thing is to just take it off and put a restrictor in the return line, the easiest way is just to plug the feed line to the carb or like you said cut the wires.

gotcha. i didnt realize that fuel still returned to the tank, through the internal restrictor, when power is applied to the valve. ya, a bb would work in that case.

I took mine out and connected the remaining wires together to complete the circut. Then I stuck a welding tip .032 in the return line of my BN mikuni. if its a SBN there is no need for a restrictor. I replaced all my fuel line with line from fuellines.biz great deal all different colors. Theres my 2 cents.
