Ideas on how to fix this: v.hull has been drug with nose up about 8769 times too many

I hate to just use cabosil or 404 because it would be going onto SMC, and I'm scared that if I knick it on a rock or the concrete at the landing, the whole chunk might pop off.

I'm aiming at getting this hull to the painter by the beginning of next week, so some help would be GREATLY appreciated. I may even be able to talk X2rags into some sexual favors for ya' :shhh::laugh2::laugh2::laugh2::deal:

I dont think 404 would break off. I had to literally hammer my scupper out with a sledge and a baseball bat when I wasn't satisfied with the install, when done with epoxy and 404...

If you are worried, you could always build it up with glass mat, and sand it to shape.

I'm no expert though, and fumble around more than not when dealing with glass.

Yea, I was thinking I might have to sand that all the way across a bit to make it deeper so I could lay some thin cloth in there and still be able to sand it flush. If the general consensus is that 404 and epoxy will be fine, that is what I shall do.

1. Please don't offer any sexual favors, whatever you have with x2rags should stay between you and him.
2. The 404 will work. Better than the SMC in any case, don't worry about "the chunks'.

Haha, I knew someone would twist that around on me pretty quick. And SMC sucks.. that's sort of what I was saying. A whole layer of SMC will come off that the 404 is being bonded to without hesitation. It's like gluing something to a piece of particle board and then hitting it on something versus hitting a piece of the particle board on something. I was just worried that the whole chunk of 404 would come off with a layer of smc too easy. I guess if it does, then damn it, it's time to get to fiberglassing.

404 it is... for now at least

Just run it like that, chances are anything you epoxy to the back of your chines will just break loose anyway.

If it wasn't on the back edge, I'd say mix some 3-1 epoxy mixed some fiberglass chop and sand it smooth.

Uh... so what happens if it keeps wearing and makes a hole there? Then i will be right back in the same spot I'm in now. I'd rather deal with it while there isn't any paint on it, and it's dry in there.

worked great on my brothers boat

For repair on an SXR chine I used resin and short lengths of fiberglass cloth. I built up the void with multiple layers of cloth and sanded it to the proper shape after. This wasn't at the very back of the boat but part way up. I would still recommend the same process for this repair.

I use expoxy resin and milled fibers for my chine repair. Sands pretty well. And a big yes to the saran wrap for shape.
