The people using IE are just the people that don't realize there is something better. I have yet to talk to one person that prefers IE over firefox. they are just to lazy to switch.

I finally got switched over to Ubuntu and running Firefox, man its a good feeling being MS free. Its a little confusing getting things going, but so worth it.

I would think about switching. I'm not a computer techie guy though so i'm worried about making the switch. Also do all of the regular windows programs work on it? Like office and stuff like that?

Ubuntu has mostly free GUI applications, but the inability to run a few things I use frequently has prevented me from running it on very many machines.

it boots fast as hell, and is really cool otherwise.

It doesn't use 'regular windows programs'. It uses Linux versions.

However, Ubuntu has OpenOffice, GIMP, Firefox, etc all included, no need to install them.

I'd suggest download the .iso and burn a CD, then boot from the CD. It won't touch your hard drive but will load Ubuntu into memory and you can try it out. It'll be slower than if it were actually installed since it has to read stuff off the CD, but it's good for trying it out.

I might give that a shot!

Im not saying its the best,,but Im not paying for a MS program(all though I have a xbox) but 6 of my laptops died this past year,I was down to one and it was dying. So till I get a mac this was my only choice. So far its running smooth. Has some good stuff loaded. All I need is a internet, and photo machine. So it fits the bill nicely. My install was pretty smooth after I got a pc with a burner to make the live cd. I just downloaded the updates and now my internet is back to full speed.

The gimp image is pretty close to photo shop. I would like to learn how to use it.

I have a borderline retarded friend (and I mean that in all seriousness) using ubuntu. Any one can use it. You just have to relearn how a few things work.

I installed Ubuntu as dual boot with XP. You need to have a bunch of free space on your Windows hard drive and defrag it first. When you install Ubuntu you move a slider to tell it how much hard drive to give Ubuntu.

All that stuff you heard about Linux being hard over the years it's not that way anymore. Dual boot gives you the option of still having your Windows comfort zone.

Aren't you tired of your Windows machine being a tool or potential future tool of the russian mafia?
