yes, they sell face masks seperatly.

funny thing is I still wear my helmet that I busted my face with twice. I just stopped doing that trick. :afro:

what trick did you bust your face up with? same one both times?

BTW... something I have been noticing about the lacrosse helmets... as seen in the pics above... the top one has the cage mounted securely to both sides and overlaps the top... the pic of the helmet below it shows the cage much less well attached... if you really face planted hard I would expect you would want the one on top so the cage would not hit ya if the mounts broke

another thing I noticed is people are voting but not telling us why they picked the one they did over the others! come on people... tell us why you think your pick is the safest!!!!

I wanted this thread to be more about our safety than looks/weight... it just seems like doing/learning tricks like barrel rolls, stabs, monkey jumps, etc... there is a chance for the bars to come through the helmet either straight into it, or from an angle while rotating and clip your melon... maybe this just never happens...

I thought that since mx, bmx, downhill mountain all have handlebars too and they have come up with this design maybe that isnt an issue... but they are not riding a 300 lb machine either... doubt their bikes have that much inertia...

two summers ago, even wearing a full face Pro-rider, I did catch the handlebars (throttle side) between the the visor and full face part... caught it just under my nose and pulled the cartilage away from my face up into my nose. It hurt like hell.

I have been considering a different style helmet, but wanted to try one out first.

I usually ride with a full face (Bellistic) however, my Pro Tec wake board helmet is my fovorite.

I am the excate opposite. I wear my pro tec wake board helmet all the time and its my favorite. I have a bellistic helemt if I am trying something new or would probably use it in surf. I don't like the closed in feeling of the full face and how it alters my peripheral vision.

I am afraid the poll has been tainted by people simply voting to which helmet they use personally... only a few people have come in to say why they feel the helmet they chose in the poll would be safer... so many people feel the bmx/mx/mountain bike helmet is safer in the poll but dont say why they think it is the safest out of all the options...

if you have voted and didnt post yet... please tell us why you picked your selection

When riding surf, I use a Full-face bmx/mx

Seen several helmets cracked bad from collisions between skis and other wipeouts, and just thinking about what that would do to a non-snell rated helmet gives me the shivers.

Cramped my vision a bit, but I would rather have cramped vision, than a cracked skull.

Talked to the people at Cascade Helmet Co. and they said of course that although they could not endorse the use of the product for our purpose (because of the legal aspects and stuff...)... they did not tell me anything during our discussion that lead me to believe it would be bad to use it...

the mask is carbon steel with a coating, so it will rust over time... but prob not for a season or two... I ride freshwater... so it would take a lot longer for me... you guys that ride salt would prob have to throw a little extra paint or rubber coating on the mask part I suppose...

To test their helmets they take a mock up human head in the helmet and drop it like 10 feet onto an anvil... (at least that's what they told me.. )

They said that their helmets are tested to withstand multiple impacts from many different directions.

I wear a fullface cause I feel comfortable in it Grew up wearing full face in Motoocross and Road racing. I feel most safest having my face enclosed I dont fint the BMX helmet effecting my vision it all depends what you are used to and how you learn to look beyond the limits of a full face.
