Surf newb in Central / Southern California

I have been watching too many youtube clips and want to take my SJ to ride some surf. The closest beach to me is Ventura, second would be Pismo. I usually haul my ski in the bed of the truck, but I do have a trailer I could use if needed. Is there a good place to go to get my feet wet where I could launch the ski without a beach cart?

just come to pismo, ventura can be a huge pita if(when)you sink the ski, 2 mile ride to the harbor. im almost always there and its easy to pick up a ski with two people, i do this every weekend.

10ft tops.
if im alone i just park close to the water and ask some bystander to help drop it on the sand. i can drag it till it floats and thats that.

Brett, is that in the Harbor by Andrea's Seafood? Can you launch from the back of a truck, or would I need to bring a trailer?

when i rode at ventura it still took 2 people(3 actually) to get the ski out of the truck. do NOT drive your truck in salt water!

I live near ventura. if you have a trailer it is easy. if not, meet one of us with a trailer, we slide your ski onto our trailer after we're done launching. Then vice versa on the way in.

Its nice not getting all sandy.

you could use a tote if you dont have a trailer. its on the other side of the harbor from all the restaurants

but with a beach tote, you'll want a winch on your truck or one to two other people to help you pull that tote back up the launch ramp.
