Do you need underpadding when returfing?

I plan on re-turfing my SXR with REV (or kicker) footholds this winter. I was wondering if you need underpadding (25 mm from hydroturf) at all?

Is there underpadding on the stock SXR mat or is just the mat?

On a SJ there is no underpadding stock and it never bothered me (well besides lack of grip). If you wear shoes and use HT I don't see a need for it, unless you need to tighten up the footholds, but a lot of people will probably disagree, but if your not a pansy you probably won't need it.

Ok. Anyone know if there is underpadding on a stock SXR mat? Becuase if there isn't...then screw it.

If I decided to use underpadding to tighten up WD REVs what size should I use because 25 mm seems to big. And where do you get it?

I use under padding on my skis. And I'm no pansy. I do; however, have two bad knees and ankles, and I can feel the difference after a day of riding.

If you plan on going big i would get underpadding. There are a few people on this forum alone that have had shattered ankles that will tell you the same

8mm, no way I would ever stick 25mm in a foothold, that is 1 inch thick. You can get it from hydroturf

I didn't say anyone is a pansy if you use it, just if you aren't, you shouldn't need it. I doubt this guy has terrible joints, the molded diamond hydroturf feels pretty padded, plus your shoes should have padding, riding no padding has never bothered me, but I ride flatwater, I don't know how it would feel in surf, I could definitely understand wanting padding for that

check your pm's if you haven't already, I replied with a lot of my opinions, but my revs are open. I don't see why if you don't have a problem with no UNDERpadding from factory, why you would need any now, the hydroturf is thicker than stock SJ mat to begin with, which I doubt is much different on an sxr. The turf you use is technically padding in the first place, no padding would be riding on fiberglass (which I tried yesterday btw while working on getting my carbs dialed in, and now I have a one bruised knee and one is cut, lol). Only really did it because I can launch in my backyard, but I won't be riding without turf again.

Any amount of padding can only help absorb energy that would otherwise be transmitted into your legs & back. Anything that helps reduce impact will reduce fatigue and wear & tear on your body. Use as much padding as you can get by without affecting your feet fitting into the footholds IMO.

WORD!!

Well if the stock SXR mat is un-padded then I can handle a hydroturf mat un-padded. I'm 16 and still young so it won't be a problem.

If I decide to buy some underpadding for the footholds though, should i get 5mm or 8mm?

And I'm still not sure if the stock SXR has no under-padding. I'm assuming that Kawsaki wouldn't spend any money on that.

Dude. that IS NOT a reason not to do it. you can go to Lowes and get the snap together mats for like $6. You beat on yourself now because you are "young" you WILL feel it a few years later and then it'll be too late. Trust me, I know from experience.

I got the 8 mm and layered it where needed
there are 3 layers on the kicktail under the turf:beerchug:

Well if I do go with underpadding, I was plannig on putting one sheet of 8mm padding on the bottom tray (none on the sides) and then using whatever is left for snugging up the footholds (if needed).

Does this sound ok?
