blackjack carbs for freestyle?

i just picked up a 97 sj that im going to make into a back-up/surf boat. it has b pipe, head, intake and 44mm blackjacks. im going to get it ported for freestyle real soon. i was told that the blackjacks are more for racing and top end? can i make these work for freestyle, or shoul i sell them and look for something else. i had a set of regular 44 makunis on my kawi that worked real well, but they were just stock carbs.
thanks guys. let me know what you think. and if i sold the blackjacks, what do you think their worth?

That's a universal statement applicable to most things carbs. :haha:

Most carbs aren't very good when they ain't dialed in. :fingersx:

If you buy them new from Art and he does your motor he can have you set up for it, no problems, you buy them used and put them on someone elses porting, Art can only get you close. By nature the Blackjacks are a bit more tempermental than some other carbs. But, once you get them dialed they are very good.

Stingray (RD) runs them so does Crammit & a few others in Freeride aplications and they must be dialed in cuz all the ones I have ridden hit NICE. My suggestion would be to call ART @ jetworx and get a starting point for setup as they did.

Very true....I just don't know how exclusive that is to Black Jacks. I had a helluva time getting Full specs dialed in. (Until I got a hold of Ed, and he set me straight on Jetting).

LOL, crazy how a phone call to Ed or Art can relieve sooooo much agravation HUH. Ed told me everything right down to where to set the screw adjustments and I couldnt find a dead spot and hit 7200 rmps w/ a mag pump, I was like "this mfr's better then David Blane".

Haha...same here. I was struggling for over a week. I finally got a hold of him, and set it to his suggestions.
I didn't have to touch ANYTHING, everything was spot on.

I gave him a basic rundown of what it was ported for.

Besides, once you got the specs for a Full Spec, they are transferrable between different motors. I used a 48 Full Spec on each of these two motors:
62T cases, heavy porting, X cyl ported, 717cc, B-Mod
61X cases, mild porting, T cyl ported, 754cc, B-Lim

They used identical jetting.

Stingray called Art for jetting on his BJ's and was told 130pilot / 130main:shocked:, it actually ran so /so but very rich. He is down to like 105 pilot & 130 main and it is much crisper @ bottom and runs very nice, he also had to increase pop off from what Art told him. So his experience wasnt quite as good but in the end he is very happy w/ the BJ's over the Novis he was running.

I really like my single 46 BJ on my 62T riva conversion manifold. I just gave Art a run down of setup and he jetted the carb. I have it written down at home. Runs very well. I think I could dial it a tiny bit more but haven't messed with it.

thanks guys for the tips. not sure what im going to do just yet. if i decided to sell these and go with a big single, whats ball park on their worth? thanks again.
