It might as well be, that is the only way to find anything here now. I have tried every conceivable way of using this sites search feature to no avail. I would say it is frustrating but really that does not quite cover it. So now if you want to find something here go to Google and type in what you are looking for, hopefully a thread on the X will pop up, then you can search for more threads on the X and find what you are looking for. Its quite ironic that none of the other forums I use has this problem, especially the mountain bike forums. :smashfreakB:

I've mentioned many times that it's a major complaint about vbulletin 4, and I agree. That was one of the reasons I ran the trial of SMF to replace vbulletin, but couldn't find enough reasons to go through the pain of switching, because people like you would bitch about changing and things not working, etc.

btw, on google, type in site:x-h2o.com and it will limit your search to x-h2o only. Many sites, including some mountain bike forums which I'm sure you're well aware of, use that as their primary search.

Here you go since you asked.

I did a thread search on the X today
My searches for fuel fills all turned up ghey
but then I searched Google and all was ok
Thank God for Google it saved the day
People often wonder why site traffic is down
but when we have problems the mods want to clown
Attachments are slow and to load takes forever
though it would get fixed , shoulda known better
forgive me if I and others have complained
yes over and over it has been explained
I suppose I will go now and search with much glee
as I am searching the threads on PWCT

I'm still on the fence on SMF---just set it up for the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association so I should get a lot more experience with it this year.

I did upgrade vbulletin here to the latest yesterday, but it was just minor fixes.

WFO, what specifically are you having trouble finding?

What usually happens when I do a search is either nothing comes up or a bunch of random posts having nothing whatsoever to do with what I am searching for come up.At least thats what happened as late as this morning.

I have to go with Terry on this one.. I'll try to come up with some examples when I have time but here lately I have been using the google site search to find things here. It's always when I'm trying to find something I've read on here FAST.. I'll punch in a phrase that I know I've read here in a thread and a thousand things pop up, occasionally I might find what I'm looking for.
It could be user error, if you want to say that I'm in error for not knowing the E X A C T verbatim sentence or thing I'm trying to find. I'm sure if I type something in perfectly then it'd pop right up, but if I knew exactly what I was trying to find chances are I would know where it is, and the search wouldn't be needed. It's always one of those "Damn I know I read this once, where in the hell.." situations. I just go to google and bam there is is.
That said, I know absolutely nothing about web design, forums, etc so I would never complain or try to suggest something different, because I have no solution to offer.
I love the X, and I'm not trying to bitch! Just my .02! Keep up the good work Jett and friends!

I think the problem is if you put in 3 words you know are in a thread it will bring up every thread with any of the 3 words. even if you sort by relevance the correct thread does not come out on top.

That's exactly what I find to be the problem.
Things are improved a little bit by searching in thread titles only, but overall the search sucks.

I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. Most of the things we are searching are so common here that they are everywhere.. A search for something like "44sbn 701 jetting " will get you a thousand threads about all kinds of stuff and maybe something pertaining to exactly what you want.
Search feature probably works just like it's supposed to, maybe I'm just searching for things that are way too common.

No, the search no longer looks for phrases or AND combinations.
From your example, a search for 44sbn 701 jetting SHOULD give me those threads that have all three words in it (if you put the phrase in quotes, you should get only threads that have exactly that phrase)
Instead you get any thread that has any of the three words in it. Unfortunately, that renders the search useless.

You just need to change the way you do it. The way I search works great, even have my own button "Post New Thread". I will admit it can be kinda slow.

Several of you guys nailed it on the head, this morning I searched for INTERNAL FUEL FILL, crazy stuff came up, same search on google yielded usable results, if I can half a$$ remember who started a thread I will just go to their home page and search all threads started by them , its actually quicker that way. :frown:

I have revisited this over the weekend and made zero progress. It also looks like vbulletin is actually locked into a specific type of search and I can't even change it, so I'll probably add a Google custom search to see if that helps.

The google search works very well. Just add "site:x-h2o.com" to the end of your google search term.

I did just change some of the scoring for a search to make multiple word searches more prominent, but need to do some testing to see how it changed results.
