93 B1 into MeanGreen

THE BACKGROUND

One day i was driving down the road and saw a nasty B1 (purple/yellow) on a trailer sitting on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it. i absolutely had to pull over and check this out. my girlfriend rode one a month back and fell in love with them for the reason that they were like a SJ but wouldnt wear her out, more fun than the honda i have, and carve like no other. it was to perfect. its got a price tag on it for $800 OBO w/ trailer. not bad price but it wont turn over but a little crank. I call the guy and say how about $500. He agreed. Well we arrange a time and place and make it very certain that he bring the title for the ski and trailer. well a day later he calls me back and says he doesnt have either. i explain to him that i need a title for both or i cant tow the trailer or get stickers for the ski. he understands and give him the info on how to obtain those things since they are not under his name from when he bought it. well he calls me back a couple weeks later and says i cant get them and mva and dnr have a expensive hard to handle process that he needs to follow and he doesnt want to do it. he says how about a $100. DONE. i dont have to think twice about that. the motor mounts would go for near that much. needless to say i take it home put a charger on the battery, change the plugs, and spray some carb juice in it and it fires up in a sec. sounds mean and idles fine. the water test was a dream. The ski has got a CDI, factory pipe, waterbox, rear exhaust, bildge all on it. Let me also say that it is a complete pain to get a transfer of title in the state of MD but can be done.

NOW THAT IM THE OWNER MY WINTER PROJECT IS TO

It runs great but doesnt look great. I love to ride hard and when i get the chance it is in the surf. So i plan to add little things to make it tougher, set up for what i like to ride, and look like a new ski.

THE PLAN
(not spend a fortune on this project)
-sand and repaint all of the ski black inside and out
-use vinyl to give accent colors
-redo the seat and handlebar cover
-add some footstraps
-reinforce the stern, bow, sides, hood
-select certain engine parts to paint or change color

PROGRESS
threads to come. please help me with idea along the say. this is my first build of this magnitude. any input good or bad would be appreciated.

I was just about to ask the same thing. Almost looks like something off a bmx bike. Post some closeup picks if you can please, top and bottom...

Oh, and this may be the biggest steal of a deal I have ever seen on here. Nice work!

the breakdown starts. it is some kind of bike stearing. i cant remember the brand name on it but i recognized it as bmx. i couldnt find any pictures but i will def. same some. i do have to say i really do like the set up though i broke one of the bolts trying to take it off.

mean green parts start arriving. i plan to paint this ski all black and have neon green accents. got my hands on some vinyl which im am going to hand cut my own graphics for the sides, ordered a couple cans of high temp spray paint from tcp global, and got to go with the green fuel and water lines from fuellines.biz . i needed to paint the pipe because it was by far needing the most attention. lots of the powdercoat had been removed, i had a cut off bracket that needed to be grinded off, and on the bottom a little rust was starting. so the pipe had to go green. i also plan to paint the case and motor mount seat green too.
1st pic - a few of the materials
2nd pic - while taking the pipe off i snapped one of the bolts. what you see is actually a snapped off extractor in the broken bolt. that will have to be milled out
3rd pic - first coat to the pipe.

yeah i was thinking about leaving it but i needed a winter project so then i started ripping into. the next week i smashed the nose in on my SJ so i ended up with two winter projects. that is basically why im going to reinforce this one too. if im doing one why not another.

yes the paper work has my name on it. it was more time than money that took to get it.

I bought an extra seat from a member here. I will have 2 seats, one for the surf (low profile) and the stock one for flat water. I side mount my B1 but with the stock seat is a PITA and if you are in the surf and a set is coming....you want out of there quick. I will also add Foot straps.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pick one up for? I guess your right, that would make it a lot easier to side mount especially with a grab handle on the far side of the seat. it would be nice to have two. Im guessing your going to put grab handles under the seat like other people have done?

The handles that some add are for aerial tricks, not for mounting. When you side mount (surf or flat), both hands should be on the handlebars.

Yeah, everyone has their own idea on how to get this done. I think the one on the right is a short section of rope with something in it to make it stay in that position. I'm planning something similar but with a way of holding it down to the seat when not in use.
