Why do aftermarket hoods suck?

I have a WCF hood. I love the hood. It is great super strong yet light enough the wind will blow it away like paper. But it lets a TON of water in. It needs some kind of baffle to make an air lock like the stock design. I know that your not suppose to let it sit on it's side in the water but I do spent a bit of my time with my ski laying sideways. And every time it has 4 to 6 inches of water in the bottom. With one tank of fuel my motor has seen more water than my last ski did in 3 years.

Is there a solution? I know that some people say it is because of my scupper letting the air out... But with the scupper plugged with a sewer plug it only takes a few seconds and the hull is full of water. I was playing around with it at the beach and when tilted to the left side the hood flows water in the left side and into the engine compartment and the air flows out the right side.

I was thinking about putting outerwears on the air tubes inside the hood to keep water from getting in. Any other ideas..??? With the WCF you can't seal the air inlets they are too big.

I think your hoses might be too big, but if they are smaller, you can push more into the baffle area and angle them to the opposite side. That would do the trick for laying on it's side, though I'm not sure why you do that very often.

run your hoses further into the hood . but still allow half inch from the top inside . this will stop the water from going down the tubes as fast and back out the original inlet

if your laying it to the side either it is letting water in around the hood seal from bad fit, or the breather tubes are too close to the sides..........

hate to be stupid but, i cant help it.
Dont let the ski go on its side? :wall:

I guess riding surf all the time, with my ski.
Its a just dont let go kind of thing.
and if you do.. make sure its close to get back to it...

my WCF hood does let some water in, but ive never laid it on its side long enough to have noticed a problem.

it has been tossed around upside-down in the ocean many times and had minimal water in the bilge

how is your hood seal? I know that hood seals can wear out and not have the same memory after a few years. It may be a good idea to replace it with a new OEM

Its running a full blown ,limited production extremely stock hood which by the way does not leak a drop.Me riding a Stupidjet now that one is funny ,you crack me up SFL.
:haha:

it doesnt leak a drop because it doesnt have the balls to get out of its own way.

silly hillbilly.... you got it all wrong.

what is funny is a "freestyle 300sx".

shall we take a vote?

No put up a poll instead, that always seem to work out well for both of us.:spam:

I will get some pictures tonight but the hood has seadoo air tubes. So they protrude into the hood a bit but not too much and they are close to the outside. The seal is good and it latches plenty tight.

I would like to pull off clean rolls and never fall off of my ski but that isn't going to happen any time soon so it gets water in. Getting the water out isn't a problem I have an xft scupper so it gets rid of it quick I just don't want it in there. Worries me with all that money in that motor. If it was a stock motor I would just let it hydro lock.

Darin has a good idea. Have the tubes turn inside the hood so they almost meet in the middle. I also have a 2" pole breather so that helps with air but do you think covering the air tubes inside the hood with outerwears would work. I don't know how good outerwears work.

if the tubes ran from on side to the other (right to left) then water should have to fight gravity to get in. i would assumeif you get the tubes close to the opposite sides it would help

I think I mentioned this before you had to try and compete with Lou. Lets see who can sink the most money in a jet ski club. :nana:
