I found some stainless threaded inserts at my local hardware store. They are about .75” round at the bottom with 10-24 thread pitch. I mounted them in the tray with a stainless steel plate over top of them. The small strips of stainless steel came from a door kick plate that I trimmed down to 4”x 2” and drilled two holes for the inserts to come threw on each side. I used a dremel to cut some grooves in the back of the plates and in the fiberglass tray for better adhesion and mounted them down with JB Weld. There is no way its every coming off and no way the stainless inserts are going to pull through the stainless plate.

sure you can weld to mild steel to stainless....but your weld will still rust. also bump the heat up a little to penetrate stainless better.

I used some Hull Insert that Hot Products sells on my X2. I just drilled a hole a little smaller than the insert. Then I used a dremel with a weird looking cutter bit lowered down into the hole to hog out some of the foam below the deck/tray/fiberglass. I mixed up some JB Weld and put it into a zip lock baggie. Then I sniped the corner like a pastry bag and piped the JB Weld into the hole. Next I used a bolt with a nut tightened to the insert to thread it down into the deck/tray/fiberglass. On my X2 I just drilled throughe the bond flange to attach the other end of the strap.

Only problems with mine was that I only used one insert/fastner. I was worried about removing too much fiberglass and the hull breaking if I used two inserts side by side.

Only problem this caused was for the straps to want to twist some instead of being put. Still they only move a little nothing to complain about, just my observation. I am using the twist locking little extra piece you can buy for like 4 bucks from Dakine.

One last problem is that I have mine a bit forward from where they need to be. I rode around a bunch trying subs to see where I would want them. I wish I had mine back farther. Really they are fine where they are but subs would be more of a breeze if I had them back more.

Make sure you put them where you want them the first time!

Slutty's install look great. I may try that next time. Or just drill/tap a strip of aluminum and epoxy it down. Then I could have multiple holes.

where is the original thread about installing these straps....and would you say the same for mounting in a blaster

yeah... you you can screw into a B1 w/o foam issues...

DO NOT put screws into your tray, take it from someone who has done the re-foaming... it's not worth it.... if you are concerned w/ them comming up, just lay some glass on top of the washer to add strength

or add a ********load of filler beads to the epoxy....I have done it each way and neither have failed
