    DAG's 2010 Black Betty Build

    Start Off with Some Inspiration

Figured I should start a log so I won't back out of the much needed recondition.

    Plans:
    • New Turf (color undecided)
    • Paint (appliance epoxy black)
    • Cheap vinyl (need to design)
    • Carbon/Glass reinforcement
    • Fix OEM foam holes
    • Check foam wetness
    • Center mount 5lb battery
    • Figure a way to mount an extinguisher.
    • B-Mod pipe is getting chomped up knocking off the motor mounts (looking for a solution be for a hole gets knocked into it)
    • re-wire using heat shrink and weatherpack connectors
    • Turf with thick underpad
    • Relocation bilge

    Maybes:
    • Wide tray mod
    • Oneway valve
    • -2 Hull
    • D Cut plate
    • glass over OEM filler
    • Bilge switch on pole

    Goodies:
    • XMW box
    • Lighter hood
    • Trinity Footholds
    • 5lb battery

Pretty basic stuff, just need to get it done.

I have/had the same problem with my chamber. Just sand the area and dap on some turf in a pretty pattern.

I put a couple of pieces of turf under my waterbox. That raised it up enough to where the stinger cleared.

As a progress update in the last few weeks I've pulled the engine broke down inspected, sent cylinder out for a fresh honed and reassembled with new rings. Removed turf on the rails and spend many hours sanding gel coat. Started grinding the ribs and drilled a small hole in the back to see if any water would drain... I wanted to break it all down to understand what i was working with. Turns out its going to take a bit more than expected.

Good news: XMW box came in and got Ratti's old 24/7 hood.

    Pic's so far.

    As I begin

    Sanding Progress

    Ribs and Glue

Pic's of the B-Mod which is knocking off the motor mounts, going to add some extra padding under the box to raise it up a bit.

    Next Steps

    • Weigh bare hull
    • Order glassing supply's
    • Order footholds
    • Order turf and underpad
    • Research weatherpack connectors
    • Remove current holds in one piece
    • Remove turf in tray and sand
    • Finish Grinding ribs and prep for glassing

If you haven't broken it yet doing flatwater what makes you think its going to break now?

Just add one layer of 17oz biax. wet it out, slap it on, and then spend the next 10 minutes squeegieing out every last bit of resin. Your talking a few ounces difference between two layers of 8 oz... but the relative ease of using 1 layer of 17oz and eliminating the chance of fudging up and geting airbubbles all over just makes it worth it.

not when your doing 2 layers of 8oz. The wieght is in the resin, not the cloth.

well since you were planning on refoaming, you should refoam my ski

Im grinding down my ribs today, and I and the whole ski were covered with fiberglass dust, really messy.

:-):-):-):-) man, that sucks. you just jynxed yourself. Now its surely to become waterlogged in the first 20 rides.

Also, heres some advice on the weather packs... I just did them all over my ski. BUY THE CRIMP GUN. I did not... and i have been having nightmares ever since. the wires slide out of their leads even if you follow his "non crimp gun" instructions. I just said screw it and took them all apart and soldered every lead onto its wire.
