I've been so flustered thinking about getting video together that I didn't think of contacting the people organizing the service. They might already be working on one of those slideshow things with someone.

Is anyone in contact with them? I don't want to just show up at the service with a DVD.

Thank you for coming here.
I am so sorry for not being able to do anything for James.

Matt... Thanks for your selfless attempts on behalf of all that knew James.

You might want to check out this weeks edition of Tillamook Headlight Herald. Their coverage of the event seems to cast doubt on the accounts of the morning posted by members over here. They printed "contrasting" accounts of the events are being posted here. I read this to mean contrasting to the police reports and just thought you folks might like to know the slant they're putting on this incident. Maybe a few letters to the editor are in order from those of you that were present! (they print them and can't put any spin on your own words)

I saw the article this morning and wondered exactly what was "contrasting" to the police report.

Especially considering that I gave my account to both a Tillamook county Sheriff's deputy and to an OSP investigator.

A very sad and tragic end to what should have been a great weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Matt don't sell yourself short, there are a lot of people out there who would not have had the courage or strength to do what you have done.

contrasting maybe in that the police report is official and emotionless and your account was the opposite of that. i dont think it meant contradicting.

Matt,
official is not always correct. You and your wife are wonderful people and everyone here holds you two close. You guys are the best. Don't worry about the article that was ran. You know and we all who saw and talked to the next day Sat. and that is all that matters. You can read and feel the love for you and what you did. Your wife is a lucky lady and your children are lucky to have a father as yourself. The freeride community is lucky to have you as part of it. See you guys soon.

Thats the way I interpreted it after reading the article. The author was simply stating that the police report was 'matter-of-fact' details, and your postings showed the human side of the story.

Regardless, take solace in knowing that you gave a heroic effort and a heart-felt account of the story.

one more thing

Sorry for asking for more help. I would like any of you who can get your hands on hard copies of any news articles to PM crab. His wife Mary will be handling scrap booking all news articles for the family and for Mason when he is old enough.
Thanks for all your help and support

The first time I met him was when he cut me off out in the Oregon surf. Although irritated, his abilities were intriguing and his thirst for the surf made me want to get to know him. And of course my husband set me straight and made me aware that we were among a great up and coming rider. We are very fortunate to have been able to get to know Zach and loved to ride with someone that shared the same passion for jet skiing as we do. All he ever wanted to do was ride, no matter what the conditions.

It will be difficult to return each time to our usual gathering place in Pacific City to ride where this incredibly tragic accident occurred…but we will be riding in Zach’s honor and will think of the great memories we have of Zach, Libby, Mason, and their black lab, Mac.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the families and friends who are suffering the loss of two wonderful individuals.

Matt – you are to be commended for your heroic efforts to save lives of those whom you did not know, without a second thought or concern for your own safety. We are proud to have such a giving member of our jet ski community. Thank you for your bravery to relive the terrible events to share your story with others Saturday morning. We appreciate you taking the time to speak with both of us and we wish and your family the best for peace with yourselves in knowing that you did everything within your power to selflessly help.

We will miss you Zach and Libby.

From the article, it sounded like contrasting was meant as "emotional and feeling" as opposed to "just the facts".

I don't think they were doubting anything you said.

Father Of Man Killed By Car Speaks Against DUII
LONGVIEW, Wash. -- A father talked about the dangers of drinking and driving after a crash killed his son on Saturday in Pacific City.
Investigators said Zachary Waddle and Libby Davis were on the side of a road when James Hernandez hit and killed them.
The car then went into the Nestucca River where Hernandez died.
Investigators said speed and alcohol may have been factors.
Waddle's stepfather, John Shmilenko, said if that's true then he wants the people who provided the alcohol to face charges.
"The people who may have served him if he was in fact served alcohol in a bar, tavern, whatever. We don't know yet. I mean, we got people with blood on their hands. I think that they should be dealt with so this doesn't happen to another family," Shmilenko said.
The family will hold a double memorial service for Waddle and Davis on Friday in Longview.
The couple leaves behind an 11-month-old son.
Waddle was an extreme Jet Skier who was featured on ESPN.
