Who makes safest Freeride helmet?

I recently smacked my head off the cowl of my blaster doing a spin out something I've done 100 s of times without incident I am Super Grateful that I was wearing a Fly Kinetic helmet ,although I believe I got a concussion from this event and I'm looking to replace the helmet with the safest brand and model on the market. I've been riding jetskis for 19 years and I only had worn a helmet on wave jumping days and any ocean riding. From now on I'll always wear a helmet even on the hottest of days. I appreciate all of your imput on this . I just read an article on pink bike.com in the tech Tuesday section about the debate between softer shell helmets and motocross helmets ,Thank you ! Sun,fun, and Jetskiing!

I had a ShredReady and they are not made for motorsports. Only light bumps from kayaking. I ended up switching to a gecko helmet which is the most comfortable helmet in the world with the inflatable blatter, however, I haven't crashed my noggin yet. I don't think it will be that much padding as the air will shift to the other side of the helmet. Time will tell.

With that said I would look into MX helmets for impact ratings however they get heavy and will rip your neck off when your head goes underwater.

A lot of people wear the Six Six one MB helmet. Not sure if it would offer any more protection over your Fly helmet though.

ive worn them all. 661, Troy lee, Bell mtb, old Giro, new Giro, and Airoh. off all of them the New Giro is the best bang for the buck. lighter, built in gopro mount, tabs to pull the padding out of the side in case of a neck injury. great helmet. 661 was good, good face protection but heavy. troy lee was light when dry but a tank when wet. Bell mtb feels like there is a big space between your face and the mouth of the helmet. i dont like that feeling personally. feels too open and can smash my face. old giro felt cheap and fell apart quick.

the Airoh helmet, comes with a pretty hefty price tag, but it is the best helmet ive put on my head. lighter than all the helmets ive listed including the mtb helmets, can hardly tell the diffrence between it being wet or dry, has the padding release, looks very aggressive, is carbon fiber, and FEELS like a nice helmet. tight on the cheeks, molds to your skull feeling. but the biggest part is how much noise is removed vs the other helmets.

ive been wearing the new giro all year but decided to put on my Airoh for the Blowsion Surf Slam and as soon as i got to riding i was like man this helmet is no joke. feels super super safe.

Currently use a shred ready. I use it with the understanding that it'll only help from my ski falling on me or me leaning to far forward and hitting the bars er something. I used a Bell mountain bike helmet that was a bit beefier, but it was overkill in my opinion.

Zack has you covered........I have tried most of the ones listed so far, bell, urge, shred ready, giro remedey, 661, airoh aviator. Seen a lot of them break/crack etc.

Airoh Aviator by far best helmet out there. Super light, doesn't soak up a ton of water, and offers the most protection out of the ones mentioned.....it's actually DOT approved. Downside.....$$$. Caught mine on a misspelled ebay auction for damn near half price.

Might also check the Suomy MR Jump. Same features as the Airoh Aviator....DOT, light weight, etc. It's just a little bit more bulky. Upside...... cheaper than the Airoh.

Which Giro did you get?
Let us know how you like it.

I bought the Cipher. My head measured right on the line between needing a medium or a large lol. I went with a medium. Fingers crossed that it fits when it shows up.

Thanks for the like! I cant tell you how much I appreciate that!

i have the medium size cipher. It held up pretty good all season.

Few tips: If you decide to use the visor make sure you clean and lube the 2 screws and check them frequently. i left my visor on until it was trashed and the inserts spun while removing it so i had to cut them off.

I wash mine out within minutes after every ride ( saltwater) and it doesn't smell yet.(removable pads can also be washed in machine)

The helmet fits a little loose which i'm not too happy about. I went off their chart and originally ordered a large and it did not fit me correctly. SO I went down a size to medium and it still is loose. I feel the chin strap is the problem. If the padded portion of it was shorter I wouldn't have an issue.

Definitely going to try another brand after using this all year. I'm not going to order one online, definitely have to try it on in person next time.

I went through about 4 helmets this summer. One day all the padding flew out of mine so I was stuck on the beach and wound up trying everyone helmets. I just bought a 661 and couldn't be happier. Super light hardly retains any water and fits nice and snug. Also very adorable. Under $80

i was debating the 661.....especially for the price. Oh well. Hopefully my helmet lasts better than yours did. I figure if the giro holds up to Zack's abuse then it definitely should hold up to my minimal amount of riding lol

Airoh Aviator vs Suomy MR Jump. Not too much difference others than the Suomy being a slight bit bigger. They virtually weigh the same. Can find deals on the Suomy for nearly half the price of the Airoh.

Both of them are super light and DOT approved.....tough as hell.
