Blaster WB1 fuel gauge and hull resurfacing

Hi Guys,

I'm starting to get my Waveblaster ready for the summer. Still ice on the lake now, but I'll give it a month with these temps. :)

Anyways, I wanted to do a few things to the waveblaster for the upcoming season.

1. I want to install a fuel gauge/sender kit. Reason for that is just that i find it kind of annoying to always have to remove the seat and lift the hood, especially during a ride.

2. If its in my budget i would like to have the hull restored. It isn't punctured or anything, but I can see where the fiberglass has really worn down (Not my doing, i think the previous owner may have parked it on a beach quite a bit). I just need a few chips to be filled and it resurfaced.

Has anyone ever put a fuel gauge on a wb1? If so, can anyone recommend one that works?

Also, can you guys give me a ball park price on a hull resurfacing?

I'm hoping to have it repainted over next winter, but I think i would like to do the hull sooner.

Thanks

The B1 comes stock with a fuel gauge, the previous owner has most likely removed it, I believe I have mine still hnagin around the shop if u need it pm me.

A B1 doesn't come with a fuel gauge in any year or stock form. Only an oil site for the oil tank which should be pulled and trashed to run premix unless you like to take your chances.

IMO you're wasting your time if you try to retrofit a fuel gauge from a couch but that's your decision. I'd just buy a cheap waterproof watch and put it on your bars, after a couple tanks of paying attention to both you'll start to figure out your runtimes, etc.

I don't think you'll find anyone who has put in a fuel guage. People on this site are much more likely to take parts off of a stock ski.

The hull repairs are very cheap if you do it yourself.

I wonder if the simple B2 dash and pickup with the three lights that show different fuel levels and then blinks right before reserve could be rigged up ? It would have to be adjusted for the 4 1/2 gals tank difference maybe...

I'm not one who typically throws a bunch of dead weight accessories on my toys, but i can't see a little fuel gauge costing me anything in the way of performance. I know, i known, but I'm not about to throw in AC and a radio. I Just think a fuel gauge would be really useful for me. I live on a lake, and typically don't rip through a whole tank in one outing. So the whole timing thing gets a bit hairy.

I've seen lots of universal fuel gauge/senders on ebay and such, that seem to be calibrate-able to any fuel tank. I was just wondering if there was someone on here that has done it and could recommend a certain one.

When I'm on my waveblaster, after a bit of riding the only thing thats a drag on my mind is how much gas i may have left, and that really steals from the fun. Fuel gauge seems to = problem fixed.

Thanks guys. :)

TBH, on a couch, fuel senders work, but I couldn't see a blaster as much as they move around giving you any kind of a steady reading you'd bother looking at.

Keep your fuel selector hooked up, when it bogs, flip to reserve and go home.

Wow I must have been half asleep when posting, lol mistaking his question for a fuel gauge as the oil level gauge on the side of the hull, lolol maybe I should work days instead of graveyard.

:D I have no choice but to keep my fuel selector hooked up. Last owner striped the screw. I'm not sure how they are going to get it off when i want the top painted.

About the fuel gauge, I can get one for around $50, so I think i'll give it a try. Could be a waste of time, but at $50 i can't really get hurt. I'm pretty sure the electric fuel gauges have a bit of a computer chip in them that takes a fuel reading over an average, but i could be wrong. I can't think of a marine application where a spontaneous fuel reading sender would be ideal. Even in a boat your going to have the gas moving around a lot.

Nobody is telling him not to do it.. rather just giving suggestions as it's not a common thing to do, especially around here.

FWIW I think a simple little setup with a low indicator LED would be trick if timed to come on a little prior to hitting the reserve, as a simple advance warning.

But not being one with the means to fab up that kind of setup I'd just use some time-tested methods like:

1) Open the hood and look at the tank.
2) Use a watch/timer method.
3) Fill up everytime you take the ski out after you've ridden a good bit prior.
4) Shorten the Main pickup to give you less time on it, means you have to go into Reserve sooner. But you'll know you can venture a little further away and still get back when it kicks in.

WB1, If you figure it out make sure you make a thread on it....

Just drill the head of the screw off with a good bit, just the head of the screw, and there should be enough meat left to use vise grips and pb blaster just incase and youll be good to go on the fuel selector. And as for as knowing when to go home I myself switch to reserve when needed and head home.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help.

Would that waverunner iii gas sender mount right on the waveblaster fuel tank without mods? I always wondered what that random pluged hole on the wb1 gas tank was for. Do these to skis share gas tank designs?

Thanks

I can't tell you that ,I don't have a Waveblaster here to measure , I can get you a measurement on the depth of a WR lll fuel sender though, from the top of the cap to the bottom of the sender is 13"

Thanks WFO, I'll check the measurements next time I look at the way blaster. Is it just a 3 data sender? (full, mid, low)

Thanks

Not sure its a bar graph, you could probably cut it off and change the resistance with a resistor if it is too long
