Super Jet Taking on water....

I recently pulled my motor to replace my starter. I put everything back together and it rode fine until I noticed it bogging down after a bit. When I opened the hood there was water almost to the top of the battery... The factory bilge used to work but for some reason has stopped as well.. Any ideas what it could be? I'm 99% sure everything went back together correctly. Could motor alignment effect the shaft seal?

Thanks.

I double checked it all when I put it back together but I have a feeling its going to be something silly like that... I also don't understand why the stock bilge stopped working

If the bulge is not working, you can pull in that much water just from riding freestyle. Might check the bilge hose to make sure it is not kinked/clogged. I have aftermarket bilge pumps in all my skis, something you might want to consider.

Aftermarket bilge has been on the to-do list since I got the ski. After I replaced the starter I rode out about 1000ft turned around and rode back to check everything at the dock so it was a pretty relaxed ride. The bilge not working isn't a huge concern but I didn't know if it had anything to do with why water was coming in since both issues happened at the same time.

Yah. No way the ride pulled in that much water. It would be quite a large hull leak/hole to pull in that much water as well. Was most likely pumped in. Cooling line. Pisser line.... If the water was hot that would indicate this as well.

Yeah, that's what my thoughts are. The lines were the first thing I checked but couldn't check a couple on the bottom side, have to pull the motor for that.

If you have the stock breadbox exhaust. There is a bolt that is prone to fall out. It is a glorified plug and is on a bottom corner of the square part of the exhaust closest to the front of the boat. Make sure that bieeach is not gone.

It's not stock, it's a riva exhaust and manifold. I have been thinking about what it could be and there is a fitting on the bottom of the manifold that I might have missed. It's the only thing I can think of.... I just wish it was at my house so I could get into it, I'll have to wait for the weekend.

This is not the OP's issue but for the lurkers looking for a possible solution that do have the factory breadbox exhaust. This is the bolt I was talking about. These pics stolen from Alex Gower's FB ;)

And from Nick Kibuk "That is a bolt that holds one of the baffles inside the exhaust, put in new bolt, threads should be up in side there, the bolt has got be rolling around in the hull somewhere"

I figured out where the water was coming from, the thru-hull fitting from the pump into the engine bay was cracked and barley hanging on to the hose. When I pulled the hose off half of the fitting came with it...sj pump.PNG

Anyone have tips on the best way to replace this or is it just rip it out, put a new one in, and seal it?

Thanks!

get a long drill bit at lowes in the electrical section. they are about 4' long. get some 3/8" OD Stainless tubing from McMaster and just drill you new holes and install the new line. seal up the old holes.

I did one last year, it was the bildge line, not sure if it was an additional line that was added like Kauna mentioned or a stock line.

I tapped the line with a hammer to break it free, then pulled it out thru pump area using needle nose vise grips. It came out real easy and left a nice thru hole in foam fir the new pipe. Got some 3/8 non flared pipe and pushed back in the hole, 5200 silicone each side... onlinemetals.com sells metal too, but McMaster Carr seems to have everything.

Edit: So now I remember the 96 Rn I did had 3 tubes, so one had been added, I bought tube 24 inches in length if that helps

There's already a sealed hole with a bolt in it next to the one that broke, I think it might have been used for dual cooling at one time. I think I'm going to try and get the broken piece out and re use the hole before drilling a new one.
