Superjet Defoam and RRP adjustable foot hold install

First time starting a thread as don't be too harsh.

This past summer I noticed my 96 SuperJet was leaning more to the right than my 14 sj. Both have b pipes both running the same battery. So pipe lean or heavy battery excuse wasn't going to cut it.

Decided I probably had some wet foam good winter project. Decided since I'd be cutting the tray out I was going to ditch the kicker footholds and go to RRP Ninja adjustables which I purchased from blowsion. This is sold as a "Universal Kit". Universal does not mean this is for everyone but I think the time and labor will be worth it when I'm done.

No templates or instructions included some my pictures will have to do a lot of the talking. I wasn't going to make this into a thread but couldn't find one to help me so hopefully this helps others.

What follows is a series of pictures and explanations of how I did it. Some steps I forgot to take pics of so if you have questions ask away.

First I used a dremel to cut out the sides bit by bit, then I realized I was going to have to cut back on the rear all the way to the line the stock turf wraps to. I did the left side first because I knew the exhaust was going to present some challenges in the right side.

Dug the foam out of the sides and then marked the location. I did not want to relocate my exhaust so I chose to cut out an area of the right side foothold to glass back over later.

I did not remove the plastic dash so the measurement I show is from the stock plastic dash peice. That was for my own reference.

I then defoamed the hull, found the cooling line and the steering cable line to be leaking foam was wet in right side. I don't believe in the pipe lean anymore. Skis lean to the right because wet foam starts on the right. Your exhaust, cooling line, and steering cable line all run through the right side of the ski and will leak over time.

I am skipping a lot because there are planting of other build threads on defoaming.

I also installed a trim tube and blowsion port match one way valve whole I had everything apart. 5200 the snot out of all the through hull fittings. I also installed Thrust Micro Tray drains. More pics of them to come later

I filled the hull full of WASHABLE BEER PONG BALLS. It's very important to use beer bong balls they do not crush or devolve it water. Ping pong balls however will.

I wanted the balls to be tight and the tray to be very solid so I kept brain storming. Here's what I came up with. I put a layer of painters plastic covering over the balls I taped it off over the edges and even up and over the exhaust. I left plenty of slack so the two part foam will be able to expand and push down on the balls to under the tray and up the sides.
Epoxied the tray back in, epoxied the footwells in, taped it off and poured 2 part foam in the sides. She filled up better than I could have even hoped. I sanded and shaped the foam and finally glassed it all back together yesterday.

I know plan to sand my glasswork down and brush on gelcoat and sand hopeing to achieve a factory look.

More to come once that's done.

I would like to mention Hurricane industries did a wonderful how to video on their adjustable foothold install.
Watch it and watch it again. If I was to do it again I probably would use the hurricane boxes. Their box install looks less "universal" and more specialized towards a superjet. If you want a regular foothold feel use their whole adjustable kit. If you want the RRP Ninja holds I think you could make them work in hurricane boxes. You wouldnt need to cut the hurricane adjustable slots, just the 4 rickter hold holes.

Sanded the first lay up of fibreglass down smooth.

Now I'm going to lay up the entire tray and rails again for reinforcement.

Pre cut and laid out the cloth. Going to let it sit a day or two to let and folds from being packaged work themselves out a bit. (Also I'm waiting on some resin)

I have it divided up into manageable peices so I can soak it down, lay it in and roll it out.

Well I had the plastic layed over the balls and taped off tight all the way around...

And I can look into the tray through the drains and still see my balls.

Also the amount of 2 part foam I used was minimal and still had it coming out the top of the rails. If I would have had a leak below it would have went there first.

I read the part where you taped your balls and totally forgot you had did that. Good idea. I didn’t use two part in mine because I was too afraid the drains would get clogged. I used XPS though so I wouldn’t imagine it would be as necessary contrary to pong balls.

from what I can see u used the wrong type of ping pong balls...... u need the AAA +++ otherwise it wont float .....

just kidding :0) , great work looks super clean , we did the first ever Rickter footholds conversion on RN at time there was no box in existance

Thank you! You are kind of right they aren't ping pong balls at all. So if I needed to use ping pong balls I'm screwed.

If my memory serves me correctly ping pong balls are 40mm and made of celluloid. Celluloid will break down in water over time.

I used "washable beer pong balls" they are 38mm and do not crush. They have some flex to them but will pop right back to shape. I spread them out on the floor of my shop and could walk on them without crushing or popping them.

So if you're playing beer pong with ping pong balls you're doing it wrong. Beer pong is more fun with beer pong balls!

If you're playing ping pong with beer bong balls call a buddy tell him to grab a case and solo cups and use the table correctly.

It's April 4th and snowing... So today's therapy consist of fiber glass, Corona, fiber glass, Corona, look at 50 Cal RTP, Corona.

Working on the final lay up, going really well thanks to my Mexican beer bottling bro's,

Headed to Texas for a 4 day weekend. Plenty of time for glass to cure and snow to melt.

Gel coat white next week and then turf.

Cool, we have group rides all over Texas, at least 1 or 2 per month. Our biggest ride is in Austin Tx, not too far from Houston, usually over 100 standups show up.

We also have a couple at Port Aransas and surf side, both close to Houston also.

Is there a website or something that lists the spacific locations and dates of the TX rides?
