Riding Flatwater Freestyle - Avoid Injury

Riding backwards at high speed and caught leg on water and tore hamstring, pelvic tear and groin injury, basically split in two, 9 months later some nights it feels like being ass raped by a blue whale

Location

Helmet
Gloves
Shorty Wet Suit for Protection
Ride near shore, not in middle of lake in case you have a problem.
Don't ride alone.
Little fuel as possible to keep ski lite.
If you have bilge pump turn it on.
As others have said, Never Let Go

Wear a helmet...
I second this!!!!

Monkey jump?
Shins to the tray or bars. I think I cried like a little girl.....

I sucked at them on my SJ. Yet to try them on my Superfreak, but will prob suck at them on the SF as well.

I'm down for some backwards hood races this year!!!!

-Don't let go... lol... but seriously don't
-Wear protective footwear if your kicking into footholds... I broke my toe last week wearing wetsuit neoprene shoes instead of wrestling shoes/cleats/whatever
- Stretch out before you ride! I always blew this off being 18 but I tore back a couple back muscles last season and really regretted not spending the 5 minutes stretching while I watched other people ride.
- wear a wet suit when doing old school tricks if you can. even in the middle of the summer I'd normally opt for a wetsuit just for when sliding around on the hood or whatever the thin layer will help your skin, shins and other random stuff that just doesn't feel as good bare.
- if your trying barrel rolls and wear a helmet make sure it doesn't have a visor or you run the risk of getting your head just about ripped off.
