So i have 00' SJ that i got for dirt cheap in 2010 ive only messed with putting in

615 footholds and reinforcing tray
bilge
0 degree bars
hooker 9/15 in the ski (knowing i wasn't getting full potential out of the impeller but better than the cast junk)

I decided i really need more power and hate riding the lake so surf is my goal. For only being in this sport 3 years im addicted and have more skis then ive had Girlfriends.

Project objective / with a to soon deadline
-rebuild motor ( really mean have Art from Jetworks rebuild my motor )
-factory mod pipe
-reinforce hull
-tow loops (ive towed leg to hand a few times when troubleshooting my 550 conversion ski and really needed these a few years ago)
-cobisil/ resin fill a few spots in the lower hull for pice of mind
-build a beach cart
-maybe remove oem stickers and take my orbital polisher to hull for kicks
-make it out to BBSD8 in time :)

Here is the ski when i got it she was completely stock and was all mine for only 1500 dollars :)
Ill post some progress pics shortly

Just finished cleaning up the bond line ill weigh the removed material once i forget how fun that just was.

time to make a template for my glass along with cutting it out and getting everything ready for tomorrows layup.

Yami-Rider i def want an epoxy pref 2 part but the single stage gerage floor and deck coatings look tempting. im not messing with gel coat, its ten directons of no fun

Project Update

-Got my carb rebuild kits - Mikuni oem
-Made a Shop Cart today for $6.00 dollars
-ordered interlux bilgekote in grey / along with interlux brightside paint for the bottom of my ski guess the color :)
-have bow eyes for the front and rear coming because ive been without a rear since i turfed the ski last year

I plan to finally finish my glass work tonight and tomorrow along with repairing the bottom of the hull with some epoxy before i refinish it.

Take one Big lots cart from your local field
Get 4 Lag bolts and washers
6) L bracket plates
screws for plates and lumber
2) 2x4x8 of clean lumber

shop_cart7.jpg

Cut the top off save for later or discard if you like

shop_cart6.jpg

Fab up some bunks for your ski there are two 3" screws on the bottom side of each joint not pictured

shop_cart5.jpg

Use lag Bolts and washers in the existing holes you drilled out to accept the bolt
along with drilling a pilot hole in the wood so it does not split

The holes where already 12" on center for the cart how cool is that!! :pancake:

shop_cart4.jpg

This should be your cart in under an hour

shop_cart3.jpg

Place ski on cart and have a beer

shop_cart1.jpg

stare at these untill i get my jets and springs

Progress Update

Glassed up the other side along with filling and glassing over the nose and handle pole bracket

OCD kicked in so I felt the need to clean the ski and busted out the DA polisher

Before

After

polish2.JPG

Then I realized I still needed to cut down the handle pole So i took off 2.5 inches beefed up the backing plates in thickness width and length :bananajump: = Above Average :wiggle:

Also took them to the break to put a slight V in them to allow more pressure on the pole once riveted and epoxied in place.

Quick question before i go to town with bilge paint should i reinforce the nose more in the upper region or is it unnecessary weight
you can see the scuffed up areas that not get any new glass below

Thanks!

Anyways ive been making headway with the ski
-picked my motor up from Art at Jetworks waiting on the factory pipe still
-purchased Jetworks Flow control Valve
-started to finish the bottom side doing my final coat in a few hours
-rebuilt my carbs
-Installed my Jetworks Dual Stage Reeds
-second bilge arrived

Here is the Hull as it sits

paint1.JPG

Its got some small gouges but nothing i cared to worry epoying smooth

paint4.JPG

Took Some Awesome Cleaner to it you can find it at dollar tree this stuff de-greases better than anything ive ever used its my go to cleaner!
Then proceeded to mask off the ski

paint8.JPG

how i decided to mask the rear

paint9.JPG

Roughed the surface up with 180 grit to cut some marks out and get a good bite for the interlux paint

paint12.JPG

Well here goes nothing !

paint14.JPG

Roll and Tip
Roll and Tip
and do it some more

All I have left now is to sand my second coat and put down the last and final coat.

paint15.JPG

you can see the split where i did not tip the paint yet, this stuff flows out very quickly and seems like it will act as
a very strong lower shield for my ski.

Finally the carbs are back together! and reeds that arnt bent up metal installed

I ended Up picking a Beach cart off of craigslist didnt have the time to make one. Red ski is mine also

For Everyone installing a Factory Pipe Manifold Use these two bolts from your old exhaust manifold for the top center two No cutting required of your old bolts and they work perfectly!

Thanks Yami Rider

Swapmeet confused as to why i bothered or just the fact i rolled it on?
and no I did not use the bilge kote i bought because im not 100% sure in done with fiberglass work and i figured if a crack starts internally ill be able to spot it easier without and i was super pressed for time so said hell with it :)

Not to many completion pics as i was assembling everything super last minute the day before my Shakedown test at the lake.

I do want to add a front foothold now
still need a limiting rope before this weekend and a simple tow lope
And probably a new hood soon as mine has small cracks starting in the back corners :/

and i just picked up someones old low budget race boat with a viper 5000 so looks like my next project is starting sooner than my wallet thought.
