Super Jet Makeshift Rachet Hood Strap

Not having the money that some of you guys do..(college student working full time to pay for gas!:wiggle I like to take things from around the house to use on my ski.

I recently purchased my snsj for just over 2k. I know that's a bit high but it had everything I want on it.. Besides a b pipe. Anyways.. I was out at the lake last weekend and literally my first trick was a nose stab and I dindn land fully rotated and my hood came off.. Long story short, thank god I have a bilge or it would have sunk!

When I got home, I searched the web to buy a hood strap.. Soon after I realize I didn't feel like waiting for something to ship.. So I made myself a ratchet hood strap! I used the 2 front handle pole bracket bolts to hold the straps down and used the the bolt section of the oem latch to hold the ratchet down.. Figured I'd share since it only cost about $5 and 20 minutes of work.

Never said I was broke! eh I'd never drive a vette though! I'm from yorba linda, go to school at Santiago in orange.

Yeah people say it's not a good place for the bilge, but I haven't had any problems with it.. It shoots entirely off the ski so it's not slippery.

Please do yourself a favor and replace the webbing with polypropylene, the nylon stuff stretches when it gets wet.

Hey I am right there with you. I also just picted one up in that area for about the same price. I hope you got a better deal though. I didnt find the issues till I got home. I do the same thing, make everything with what I have here at the house, I cant really afford to buy everything like alot of the guys do, and I really like the way some of it come out. But If I were to take pics of my ski in my garage (other than the ones I have taken with my garage sleared for fiberglass work) no one would beleive that I dont have the money to throw around.
Straps turned out great. I did mine pretty similar just sharter as temp till I make the full thing. I might end up doing it very similar. good looking ski

Other think I was going to say is that bilge, if it is shooting hard enough to go off the ski wouldnt it be hitting you in the leg or worse the face when you go down?

Thanks for that info! I found myself tightening it up as I was riding.. I'll have to find some strap by itself.

As for the bilge, whenever I turn it on I usually watch it until it stops shooting water.. If it's warm water I let it hit me, but most times I just move my leg.

I will never trust a hood latch again..

if its not to much to ask can you post a pic of where the strap is mounted up front by the pole bracket?

Yeah no problem.. It's the last two bracket mount bolts..

And then for the Rachet part, I tool apart the old latch and use the plate the holds the 4 bolts.. Wrapped the strap around it a few times so that it tightens on it self and bolt it back together nice and tight..

Rode for the last 3 weekends straigj and not a problem at all.. The straps stretch a tiny bit but not enough for the hood to come off..
