Lanier/riot/ronny ride 2010 ??

Time to bring it back? Lake Lanier is full again...we need a good camping ride in the spring!!! :Banane26:
Best idea ive heard in a while!
Jackson is up 4 feet and thats after they let alot out, i hear allatoona is up 6 feet too.

If someone can get some plans going im in 99%
Camping+riding sounds great, and its only an hour or two drive which is the best part for me.

You could set one up in 10 minutes. We're all going to stay at this campground on this weekend and ride. All the other stuff like raffles and buildoff and EVERYTHING beyond picking a date and place is nice to have, but certainly not mandatory for a good ride. If Nick moved to France (theoretically), don't you think that people would still show up to Daytona the weekend before MLKday and have a good time? It's awesome to organize big rides with all the associated stuff that goes along with them, but once it becomes "work", then maybe it isn't really worth it......

just my opinion. I'd love to do something on Lanier again unless we're still on the DNR blacklist...

I am going to state the obvious here,we had two spring rides ,one at Navarre Beach ,one at Lake Martin, now granted the weather was not the best at Lake Martin but as Gil knows all too well you can't plan a freeride around the weather. My point is no one showed up at the Lake Martin ride and attendance at the Navarre Beach ride was dismal as well.So who is it that is going to put together this ride on a lake where we are not really welcome and wait for no one to show up?

My vote is this-

1st spring ride at Orange Beach where there is a boat ramp and u can ride to the gulf in approx 1/4 mile or stay in the bay. Then a lake ride at Terry's.

Now here this---the Smith Lake Ride is moving waaaay forward next year when the weather is more predictable!!! If nobody shows-I will ride by my dam self! lol

I think Justin is calling it quits on the Navarre Beach ride due to lack of interest on the part of the freeriders,if that is true then that opens up that date,so how about this Gil,move mine up to April, yours up to May and leave the Gasden one where it was. That also opens up a date for a ride in Sept somewhere else.

lanier was by far the best freeride ever. Daytona is ok, but that many people in the ocean is just a chaotic mess. The campground, the hanging out and the riding was the perfect setup. Id love to see it happen again.

I think the camping is what makes it there! It is a classic place for a ride.......I still think Daytona and Virginia will be the king rides because they have the surf...but Lanier was killer...

The organizers really helped make that ride what it was....I hope I got them talking bout it! lol...

There are now a TON of freerides! Some of them too close to each other in time and in location...I guess it is making the attendance go down..(I know Rock N Ride, Wave Rave and FSF all had attendance decreases this year, although they all still had about 50 skis! ). I think alot of the people that came to those rides, started their own....and it's getting kinda saturated.

the camping is definately what made that freeride so great. Daytona unfortunately just doesnt do it for me. Personally I wouldnt drive 20 hours to ride in crammed surf conditions when I could drive 10 minutes from my home and ride better surf with less people. Hanging out there would be cool, but I prefer the campground over a bar. Even my wife misses lanier.

Terry, believe it or not, we use to have about 3 rides at Lanier each year, no planning other that a post "Hey, who wants to meet next week". We would have people from Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina. Oh, at least 30 people each ride.

It takes no planning, no effort, no BS. Just show up.

Man, we need to get that going again. The only reason i havent made it to a freeride before is the distance. I think if someone sets up a weekend and post it on here, maybe things will fall into place. Im sure if a roll call thread grew really fast then some vendors would see some interest.

I think you are missing the point...who needs vendors??? just post up that you are going camping on a certain weekend at bald ridge, etc and see who else wants to go ride the same weekend...

Exactly! let's put the free back into freeride. I vote for the Altoona campground. They welcomed us last time and probably would do so again. Lanier is not too crazy about loud and drunk jet skiers!:scared:

As for the dates, the first weekend of May sounds great!:fingersx:
