It is no longer considered one of the good brands if that is what you are asking. The name was bought by a chinese company many years ago and turned into a store brand bike.

Honestly, They have not been on the top tier of bikes in over 20 years. Not saying they are bad. Depends if you get the ones build for Dicks Sporting Goods or you find the bikes spec'd for the LBS. For $2500.00 you can find Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Giants................

Would this bike be a good deal at 1400-1600$? Or would I still be better off with something else?

This is 5min ride from my house so figure I should probably take advantage of it while my knees are only in moderate pain. :D

Looks like a fun flow trail!!!!!! Which bike for 1400-1600? Best thing to do is ride what ever your looking at. Do some research. MBTR.com is a good site. they have bike reviews and also MFG Forums.

Mechanical failure isnt the issue. I test rode a few bikes before bought. Pedaling efficiency was the issue. Cheap bikes break you sooner.

I bought 2008 specialized enduro expert for $950. Having the front and rear suspension rebuilt was an unexpected $650 extra. That sucked and the pedaling efficiency of the enduro is prety terrible, but my suspension is like no other. Considering my list of past injuries, not having to stand up on most of the trails is a significant advantage for me.

I really like my buddy's 29er stump jumper fsr for efficiency but the ride on my bike is so plush that i have no complaints.

That looks like a cool place to ride. You might consider hitting up your local bike store, and see if they have any demo's you can ride. That makes it easier to find a bike that fits your needs.
