Other Carbon bikes frames on Ebay?

Location

Anyone ever tried one? I killed the swingarm on my old diamond back. All my components are good and dang near new.

Do carbon frames take a beating or is aluminum the way to go?

Are carbon frames repairable as easily as our skis?

Go carbon! Much more forgiving. More fragile when you submit it to sharp edges. They can be repaired, but it is a bit more hassle and you need to know how to fix it.

Thanks for the info man! I saw a nice carbon up close a few months...I picked it up and was like oh hell yea!

Anyone have experience with the Ebay carbon frames?

Should all my gear just move right over as long as I stick with 20" large.

agree with BK ...Carbon for road only....way too fragile for MTB unless you a Pro-rider and every ounce of weight needs to be considered. ...it fractures with no warning and at the worst of times......and imo almost never repairable to the xtent where you will trust it with your life on a downhill at speed....and if the frame hits anything solid, like a rock if you fall....the tubes crush easily, and then it has a weak area, until....it breaks under stress....alu frames can survive for many years and thousands of miles.

OK Alum it is!

Bk I just ride whatever....local trails.....Rays indoor mountain bike park.....nothing heavy at all...but very little road so no carbon for me!

I am just gonna try and find a 20" large frame local and bolt my stuff on....but no rear suspension.....the rear swing arm is what snapped on this one....

Carbon frames are fine for anything other than downhill. There are plenty of videos out there showing how carbon is stronger than aluminum in just about every aspect. Yes, they are more prone to breaking if you hit a rock at an off angle, but they are much less likely to crack at the junctions like head tube to down tube, seat tube to top tube where an aluminum frame has welds.

Certain bike manufacturers will give you a lifetime warranty on a carbon frame as well - ie Specialized and a few others. I would pay more for a carbon frame from a company that offers this warranty if it was a carbon OR aluminum frame.

Don't buy into the aluminum last forever stuff either. If you push any bike to its limits and beyond, you will eventually break it. TJ had gone thru 5-6 aluminum frames and he is in the Hall of Fame. I think it is safe to say he is a better rider than all of us put together.

Ha because you divide your time between 6 apparently! I beat on 1 for everything from slow riding with kids (I can't sit still so I ride them sideways and do stupid stuff while hanging with them) to rays park to local trails...what finished the swing arm was setting up a ramp in the yard the other day and flat landing it hard all day....combined with the fact that it was a 10 year old Diamondback. It cracked at the welds on swingarm.

The other one was not the bikes fault. I way 190 and I was riding my wifes 18" Mongoose and being hard on it and it just hairline cracked...about 2"... at the neck. I put 2 zipties on it and never touched it again....lol..

Man I want to guinea pig a carbon china frame...maybe it is Maxx!

Actually I have 3 currently. a mid 90's Kona Ku (Handbuilt light alum frame), I rarely ride it. my Full Suspension Titus FTM (Alum Fram/Carbon rear stays) and my Gary Fisher Rig 29er Singlespeed (Alum). I ride the 29er the most. Just enjoy it. I have been riding since the early 90's. Guess I just learned to ride it soft...... I have a buddy who has trashed 2 frames in the 5 years I have known him, he is a bit bigger than I am and just rides heavy.

never seen one in person, just seen vids. they look cool and the fact that theyre honda based motors... makes me think 103cc stroker kit on a mountain bike would be fun

That thing is pretty cool, but if the locals around here saw it on the trails, they would be out for blood. I do like the commuter aspect of it, tho.
