It's been a few years since the SNX build and I have been getting the itch to dust off the sawzall and hack into another perfectly good hull.

This time the patient is a 93 blaster. Not doing anything too crazy. Rocker, -3 off the back, minor changes to the rails. I may or may not pull a mold off of it and make something lighter. More than likely I will leave it looking like a fiberglass abomination, stuff the running gear back in, and beat the sh*t out of it to see how I like it. Then perhaps hack it up some more, make some tweaks, fix the ugly top deck and hood lines, and then pull some molds. But probably not.

Started by marking out ~1" lines starting after the motor mount inserts. Then took cuts all the way to the bottom of the bond rails. These will let me kerf roll the bottom deck up. Unfortunately the nose of the bottom deck is just not designed well to rocker, so the last 14" was cut out entirely.

Top deck side, relief section was cut and the nose trimmed back.

Wood biscuits to space the kerfs. Taped the bottom and then filled in the cuts with cabosil thickened epoxy.

Once cured, I cut the rails free for the bottom deck back about 16". Cut a relief to lower the rails back down some.

I didn't get any pictures, but the nose was formed using 1/8" steel rods and 1" strapping. The strap mounted down the center of the bottom deck. The rods are mount at the chines, stakes, and keel, and sides. Then they are bent in to the center strapping. Masking tape is laid around the metal skeleton, then body filler is added and shaped. Once shaped, aluminized HVAC tape is laid over the form, mold release wax applied, then a layer of glass was laid.

This is the temporary nose form after I pulled it off. Hopefully that helps to visualize what was done.

DUDE!!!! I was worried you were getting out of skis after seeing you sell off everything. Definitely SUBSCRIBED!!!
 
Reinforced the inside with a layer of 22oz 8HS S2 glass. (No pics)

I wanted to keep the front bond rail. Debated forming a new one out of foam, but decided to cut the original nose rail out and then glue it in place.

The original rail is kind of bulky and doesn't flow with the lines of the ski after the rocker. 30 minutes later with a right angle grinder and DA...

Filled in the relief cuts in the top deck with 1/4" chopped fiber and laid 40oz of carbon to tie it all together.

I wanted to keep access to the back of the ski in case I ever need to get in there.

Sanded and prepped the rocker. Going to infuse 44oz of S2 glass on the outside of the rocker.

Going to do the infusion tomorrow and hopefully lay up the last couple of pieces of Carbon to the top deck. Debating if I am going to hit it with a primer or just leave it bare for now.

What is the reason for choosing carbon reinforcing in some areas and glass in others?

Material availability. The heavy glass I have to choose from is a tightly woven 8HS S glass, or woven roving. Neither conform well. I have all kinds of carbon, and boxes of scrap pieces. I used 19.7oz twill where I needed conformability or where I had scrap pieces that met the size requirements.

Going to hopefully have this thing assembled by tomorrow night. Just need to finish designing and printing the tank, waterbox, and foot strap inserts.
