96 Superjet Advice

Been out of the ski world for the last 6 or so years, however I'm still mechanically inclined as most of my friends drop their skis off to be worked on.

A friend of mine just picked up a 96 rn with supposedly a 760 out of a wave raider I think? He test rode it and said that it absolutely ripped when he bought it. a few days later it wouldn't start, and like the friend I am, he dropped it off to me. I trouble shot the thing and found that it was just the starter so I went ahead and replaced it. Going through the ski, it was put together by a crack head. the ebox is also from a sit down so every wire is 8ft too long. Fuel lines going every which direction.. The head is a 61x but the cylinder is 62t. don't know if the heads are any different between the 2. It was a pretty awful sight for a round nose. Anyways, I tidy'd the thing up as best as I could, I bought new fuel line and realized that the carbs were on backwards. IDK if that effects the ski, but I took it to parker this weekend to test and the thing seems like its running on one cylinder. I would not get on plane to save its life. I replaced the plugs to see if that did anything and it didn't. My question is, since my buddy said that the ski worked flawless and now after a new starter, it doesn't run for poop.. could backwards carbs be an issue? I will obviously be flipping them around and doing a rebuild on them. I just don't see why it doesn't run after the starter. Could one carb not be getting fuel? I am not a fan of dual carbs and really only have experience with single. Any advice would be appreciated.

on second thought it's definitely a 61x. looks like a frankenstein motor. as far as i know there isn't any motor combo that came with a 61x set of cases and a 760 cylinder. maybe im mistaken.

turn you ski upside down with the plugs out and crank it over to get the water out. don't turn it over with the plugs in.

check compression and spark

You have a basket case. Motor is not from a 760 waveraider. dont even remember if they had a 760 Raider, GP760 came out in 1996 same time as the WB2 760. That is a 61x case with a BCW Intake. Good luck with that one. Fuel and Fire. Got to have both for it to run.

Thanks guys, cases are 61x after looking. As far as this intake manifold, the only way you can mount the carbs would be backwards due to the throttle cable mount. Would it be a better option to find a different one or just keep the carbs backwards? The way the guy rand all the lines, some were pretty pinched. Maybe one carb was in fact not getting fuel?

my dual 38’s only have a fuel pump on one carb so it is a bit cleaner with the fuel lines and only one pulse line needed. I have a set of 44’s that both have pumps and it does take a bit to get the lines fitting and looking perdy.
