Freeride PreRide

The official Freeride event starts on Thursday January 12th through Sunday January 15th 2017. The special event ride zone is located behind the host hotel for the these 4 days.

The Freeride PreRide starting the weekend before the freeride has often been an event itself. It is a good time to ride and hang out without the hectic pace of the main freeride. People in town early can ride all week before the event starts.

The ride zone for all of January is located at the beach ramp at Cardinal Street. During the official event from Thursday through Sunday there is a special ride zone behind the host hotel.

Role call -Who is in??

JetManiac will be in town to ride and to bring you any needed parts to finish/fix your ski the weekend before the freeride (Jan. 7-8) at the "Freeride PreRide" depending which day has better surf.

Big Cold Front coming in this weekend so colder temps with high winds and big surf.

PreRiders should watch the NOAA site for small craft advisory for Daytona. When a small craft advisory (sustained winds over 20mph) is issued, then the Daytona ride zone at Cardinal will not be open.

NOAA website is of a typical governmental design (terrible and confusing). We are concerned with this section:
FLAGLER BEACH TO VOLUSIA-BREVARD COUNTY LINE 0-20 NM
http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&product=CWF&issuedby=MLB

Some ride options if the zone is closed(probably Sat and Sunday for sure, maybe Monday):

-Boat ramp at Ponce Inlet to the South of Daytona Beach

-Matanzas Inlet to the North
(The Spot or Secret Spot- if you ride here, then please talk to locals about riding here and be respectful, they are rightly protective of their spot and don't want to get banned from riding there.)

-Sebastian Inlet to the South

Riding at these inlets when it is big and rough is very different than launching off the beach especially if you are a newbie to surf or new to each inlets unique hazards and conditions. Never ride alone, make sure your ski and gear are tight, tow straps, etc.
