2016 Southern Fried Freeride October 14th, 15th, and 16th

Alright guys and gals the time to start planning your visit to the 3rd annual 2016 Southern Fried Freeride is now! Brought to you by your wonderful friends at the Georgia Jet Pirates. Official dates are set and it will be October 14th-16th. I know I know, everyone wanted September dates but I did check the couple weeks before finals and the peninsula already had some reservations made on it, so I checked the week after and the sites were empty, and I didn't want any issues with old man Peabody complaining about noise. Plus, that would mark about 6+ months out on my knee surgery, so I should be able to ride a little and at least be close to normal again. So yeah, next year I will plan the dates earlier in the year and make it a September ride. Go ahead and vent now or forever hold your peace.... I messed up, but its my ride and I can set the dates whenever! HA. It will be at Allatoona Landing marine resort again and they have been very nice to us again, so when you call, be nice to the office ladies and mention 2016 Southern fried Freeride and once we book ten or more sites everyone's rate will be discounted!!!

We had a fantastic turnout last year and this year being our Dale Earnhardt year we are expecting it even bigger now that its not interfering with finals weekend. @Ducky had a terrible performance last year calling it quits before the party even started, so he is going to be out to redeem himself, and he better because I was embarrassed for him. Last year we had a small run-in with dnr and everyone panicked... ended up no one got ticketed but they were perfectly clear when they said "NEXT YEAR EVERYONES BOATS BETTER BE LEGAL!" So don't ruin it for the group, you are on a corps lake, so please have your stuff as legal as can be. Also, campground had no issues with us as far as noise, cleanup, or anything so lets keep that streak going again for this year please. Lets continue to make this the most chill freeride of the year... Where you actually meet new people and get to know some new friends/skis!

Same as years in the past, Georgia Jet Pirates donate a kegger of beer to get the party going and we will have our third GJP beer pong competition on Saturday night! Last year Mark had a awesome boil Friday night, maybe with enough prodding and poking we can talk him into doing it again because last year was fantastic! We will continue to do our feast on Saturday night as it seems to be a hit and really brings everyone together for a good start to the evening shenanigans! We will sale shirts again, so look for that in another thread in the future. I also appreciate everyone keeping their word and if you say you want a shirt and I make you one, don't leave me stuck with it.... I think I brought back two or three shirts from last year which was great.

Trailer Parking:

If you look in the google picture, that big field when you come in on the left is where you will leave empty trailers and overflow parking. No trailers are allowed at the campsites overnight, and no trailers will be allowed in the gated overnight parking as it is for members only. They have overnight security every night as well. I would still recommend locking trailers if possible just for extra measure.

Ski Launching and loading:

There is a ramp located inside the campground. If you have waterfront, you can put stand ups in via beach cart if you please. Water-level ground all around the campground is all fairly level, some areas rocky, but everywhere will support a beach stand just fine. When we usually camp here we put in at the ramp, drop the trailer in storage, then keep the skis by the sites all weekend either anchored or on stands.

Tip: When making a reservation, Call the campground. I booked online last year and they could not refund the discounted price as the online sales are managed by a third party.
Also we hung around last year until late afternoon b/c the weather was super nice, but they were not very pleased. If you want to stay late might be worth booking Sunday night also. Anyone know when actual checkout is?

Yes, I had an embarassing performance. I blame it on the weather and @Big Kahuna ....i just kept pounding catfish and hush puppies and booze....that isnt a mix that makes you want to rage.

I shall redeem myself.

And yes, my dog escaped capitivity from the tent late at night, rummaged through a bunch of garbage bags, enjoyed a late night meal, went and took a swim, and then jumped back onto the air mattress being soaking wet...that was lovely!

One thing that I would be interested in would be possibly renting tables and chairs for the feast on Saturday. I think it would be the bees knees to have a sit down meal with everyone. I would gladly throw in $100-$200 to make it happen. Just throwing that out there, not super necessary.

....but then again, we can play lotsssssss of beer pong games on those tables after dinner is cleaned up!

I can get a estimate on that stuff... if we want to start doing things like this, I would be getting SFF stickers made and people register the skis and the funds could go towards stuff like this..... But I will let the people if they want to start registering and stuff!

I looked locally at party rental places and 8ft tables were $8 a piece and folding chairs were $1.50 a piece. Just rough estimates, but if we got 10 tables (would seat 80 people), and 80 chairs, that would cost $200. Im just not sure if there is a local place down there. But id be glad to contribute what I said in my prior post!

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and just picked up a ski about a month ago after not riding for about 10 years. I'm local and want to come check out the event but was wondering if this is a family friendly event? My 4 and 6 year old girls are never far from my side and would be coming with me. Thanks

This is probably the most family friendly event I have ever been to. Kids and dogs are all welcome. We have a big family style dinner on Saturday.

Would this event be welcome to any kind of ski? I wouldn't be on a couch but I'm riding a 550 right now and hoping to have a built SJ by then. Been lookin for an event to get an idea of the freestyle skis because I'm hoping to make that a recent purchase as well. Thanks in advance, no problem either way!

Of course, this event isnt a freestyle event. Its a freeride and all are welcome.
