07 SXR 800 spark issues

Replaced starter solenoid & didn't realize it mattered what post was battery & what post was starter till I tried to start it & no crank. Hooked it up correct & then no spark. I assumed I smoked the CDI, Replaced CDI with aftermarket & still no sparky.... Any suggestions before I bone this thing???

Any help or suggestions is appreciated!

Check the pulser coil on the stator.....its the single biggest reason these Kawi's lose spark....cant remember the exact ohmage reading it should be but if it open circuit its toast (a few hundred ohms like 350 or therabouts)...I used to have mine rewound with a slightly thicker SWG wire and a bit less windings and they lasted much longer

Thanks Freakie! You mentioned having it rewound, you mean the stator rewound?

the stator only charges the battery on 2004 and newer. don't even bother looking there.
hooking the battery up backwards pops the fuse.
look at the pins on the cdi after you unplug it. I've seen several that one pin corrodes off and no more spark.
check the plug ins on the wires for the solenoid

How does the CDI get its pulse signal for 2004 and up. Purely for my understanding. I Left the Kawi world after all the electrical failures

pulse coil aka pick up trigger does send the signal for spark on all sxr's.
The 04 and up have a dc cdi- which means the battery powers the cdi not the stator.
04 and up stator do not have the purple and red wires
I agree to check the cdi pins 1st than check the pick up trigger.

Will do, thanks guys!

i thought you meant the secondary windings on the stator legs , which they did away with on 04 and newer. I've seen triggers fail, but only from getting knocked off and broken. I've never seen or heard of one just quitting on a kawi 750/800
