Other Make a jetsurf or surfjet of a kawasaki 300cc hull

I make a new post here about my project to make a jetsurf of a old hull.
I´ve come quite a bit on the way now and start up of the engine is next step.
One of the main thing was to use as many parts as possible from the jetski
and standard parts just to make it easy for other to make it.

The measurements on the hull is not at all wrong length 208cm height 25cm width 62cm and
I have tried my best to keep it as low as possible.
Even the weight I tried to get as low as possible, but the biggest problem is the weight of
the jet pump and the shaft, but I did not want to make a new pump when I saw a lot more that
was has to be solved first and it was nice to have some thing you know works.

The engine is a paraglide engine 2cylinder and boxer type on 170cc and 18Hp at approx 8500rpm
It is aircooled and solved it by make it watercooled by putting copper loops around the cylinders.
It came with ignition and every thing you need to start it including sparkpluggs!
One thing is that the ignition works from 4-8,5 Volts so i hade to put a 5V voltage regulator

Starter engine is from a gras cutter with bendix and seems to work fine.
Fly wheel is from a kawasaki jetski that has been cut off to fitt but no big deal.

Latest from the project exhaust system on place and it was one of the major
problems but it seems to been solved now.
Even if there is pretty much space over when engine is on place it got
harder and harder to find a place for everything.

i had a 1982 surfjet 9' board. it had a Subaru 255cc motor. it was a total gutless turd and it weighed 100lbs. the power to weight ratio of this build is not going to be very good. it may be a fun project to work on and fabricate, but performance wise, it may not even go. I've had problems on here commenting on NOVELTY builds and they turned out to be just that, A NOVELTY. have fun but good luck. the 300SX has a lighter driveshaft than the js300 which uses the same stuff as the 440, but its not compatible with the js hull. a titanium driveshaft would lighten it up but those are rare and $$$. I tell this to anybody that listens DONT TRY AND TURN SOMETHING INTO SOMETHING IT ISNT! I would have left that motor in the parasail thing and probably killed myself when I crashed

I think you have a point there i don´t think this will be a "rocket on the water" but half the fun is to make it solve problems
and try new things otherwise nothing happens no new product will se the light.
If the project works "ok" i will get it lighter about 8-10kg to next year that won´t be to hard
the wight is about 48kg now.

Jetski is one of the main interests but i´d love to try a real jetsurf but not for that kind of money
and find it hard to be more fun then jetskiing .

I don´t aggre with you on "Don´t try and turn something into something it isn´t"
Example on product were people mixed products with good resault too is the motorcycle, atv or motocross with band snowmobile mats.
The snowhawk was before it´s time and now it has lost the fight just because of people try mixing new things and sometimes succeed.

Thanks for the info about the old surfjet!

A start with the engine on land no coolingwater attached seems to run fine but some smaller things has to be
fixed.
One is the enginemounts of rubber seems to break the bendix probably when the engine starts the distance to the
fly wheel gets to high and make marks.
I´ve mounted new in aluminium they came with the engine and order a new bendix in metall instead of plastic

Other problem is i have to watercool the exhoust it got way hotter and fast then i expected.

Then its some paintingjob and fens under so ihope a can make turns with it.

Now lets se how long it takes to get it to the water for a first run.

Sorry for the bad info! But when the test last year the main problem was starter function it never worked good.
I changed to a new starter and bendix of metal from a scooter and had to attach the engine in the hull too
but now it works!

The other problem was the exhaust pipe which did not work optimally water got into engine some times,it got realy hot etc.
Now i tried a new with water and bandage to keep it as cool as i can and it seems to work it got warm but not too hot.
dle 170 engine.jpg
The pitch on impeller was far to high and the engine could not get up in rpm as i wanted so i change that and hopefully
it will work.
handle jetsurf.jpg
The handle was to heavy so i remaked it and got rid of some parts that i dont needed.
