Finally have got this thing to where im happy with it. I have a ton of time an money into it, but it looks good an is the fastest 550 i have seen or ridden. Beats 650's with ease an hangs with most 750's. I will list all the mods

Motor:
Stock bore with no port work yet
Factory 1/2 pipe with correct reed chamber (dual cooling)
Coffmans waterbox
Jetinetics charging flywheel (ign advanced to 28*)
Keihin 42mm carb (blue version)
Jetinetics TFS flame arrestor
WestCoast head with 20cc domes (195psi)
Jetinetic billet couplers
Bad Bones reed cages with there stuffers an reeds
Jetinetic water restrictor
Primer installed

Drive:
New 550sx pump tapped for dual cooling (blueprinted)
Skat 15/18 variable pitch impeller
JRE taper bored nozzle
Jet Dynamics toploader driveshaft covering single bar style
Jet Dynamics concave rideplate
Ocean Pro steering nozzle

Hull:
Stainless Steel front nose brace
minor re-inforcing in engine compartment
Billet subplate
Quicksteer plate
Handlepole spring
0* bars w/ new ODI grips
UMI billet trigger throttle
Lanyard style kill switch
Rule 500gph bilge with mount an handlebar mounted swich
JRE fuel fill blockoff plate

Ski fires right up an is surprisingly VERY reliable. I haven't gps'd the speed yet, but im guessing between 45-50mph. Is very stable, doesn't try an toss you off at WOT. Obviously near top speed it gets a little sketchy. Next time i throw rings in it Im going to have it ported. Has tremendous bottem end an pulls all the way thru the power band. Lemme know what you think of it, an if anybody has any suggestions that I don't have PLEASE let me know. Besides portwork i can't think of anything else to do.

I also have a -2" or -3" aluminum handlepole i am thinking of putting on it. Enjoy the pics, an I know i need to do some sort of paint since Im still rocking the original pink an purple OEM decals.LOL

What is the jetting on your carb?

I have fairly similar setup (most goodies except flywheel) and a huge 48mm blakcjak carb (running fine but lacks that hit on the bottom). It has 120 low jet and huge 160 high jet (almost shut off - too much fuel).

I want the ski to have more hit on the bottom. It has an L&S cylinder, Ocean pro head, WC pipe, ported manifolds...bored nozzle by 2mm... what can I do to make it sharper??

Help...

a smaller carb will accelerate the air into cases more, thus helping with bottem end. My jetting is at 75 lowspeed, and a 155 mainjet with each screw about 1 turn out. I have a TON of bottem end. Im also running a keihin and not a mikuni tho.

As for the bedplate, im looking for an ocean pro aluminum one to throw in there, just haven't come across one at a reasonable price yet.

A regular 44mm SBN works great on a 550, I ran one with total loss/pipe/porting/etc and it was excellent.

did the Keihin carb mount directly to your stock manifold or did you have to buy and aftermarket one? I'm guessing the stock one worked since you don't have and aftermarket one listed.

I'm looking to upgrade from my 38BN, but I want as much lowend pop as possible. With that being said I think I'm going to take my nozzle off and have it bored 2mm.

Reed motors come with a Keihin 38 CDKII, so i bored out my stock intake manifold to fit the bigger 42. It did bolt right up, but in your case you would need an adapter to mount a keihin onto a mikuni intake.

Boring your nozzle will help a lot with lowend, but you will loose a little topend.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info!

As for the bored nozzle, all I want is low end pop so I don't mind giving up a couple MPH. I'm trying to decide on which carb to go with. I'm doing this on a budget so that kinda leaves me hanging. I may just go with a 44BN if it will help. BUT I think I'm about to be in the market for a starter because I think mine just pooped out on me....
