Talked to Mike Young earlier and he gave me a little more information for the race.

Edgewater Beach Resorts is the host site and have set-up some special rates for the racers staying on site. Please call them or visit their website for specific details. Mike was quoted $79 per night for non-Gulf front rooms and $89 per night for Gulf-front rooms. For two or three bedroom units, please contact the resort. There are Golf Villas available across Front Beach Road with a bridge wide enough for golf cart or ATV traffic, if this would help anyone with transporting their skis and equipment.

Call (800) 874-8686. Mention Room Block # 6043 to get the racers discount.

Air Temps average 75 during the day and 58 at night, with 67-degree Water.

I'm going to try and make it if there is going to be a decent Sport showing. I don't know if I am going to race or not, but we'll see.

How far is the race site from Tyndall AFB? If I were to go I would be staying there.

Thanks,
Dan

It's about thirty to forty minutes to Tyndall from the race site, depending on traffic.

I was going to ask you how the billeting rates were---there are probably a few hotels close by that will give a slightly better rate, but the Resort has ALOT of amenities that you shouldn't overlook, i.e. restaurants, bar, pool, hot tubs, nearby attractions.

Well for one thing the ski isn't stock anymore. Footholds are in, B-pipe is on the way, and a head and prop should be coming soon.

Not to mention I can't run bouys on my sj for sh*t. Now if I had Yamacats sj with the hull extensions, long ride plate, and deep scoop grate that would be another story. I rode that thing at Smith Lake and damn it didn't even feel like a superjet. Felt like a smaller SXR.

If Lee (godocgo) is going and doesn't mind me riding his limited B1 I might race. Rumor has it Tim Judge will be racing a blaster in Panama City:sneaky: . It would be pretty cool to race against one of the sport class legends even if all I'd see is his back.

hahahhaha. shhhhh. yeah, the womens classes have been lacking this year, even up here in 6. quite frankly it sucked. My sister is gonna be in novice womens this year, im excited to see how she does. she should rip!

callin all girls eh autumn?

edit: if this race in panama is for 2007 high points, megan should race novice, because in 2007 she will not be a junior, therefore she will obtain useless points by racing juniors right now. I dont think a juniors points wil carry over to 2007 if they cant race in it throughout 2007. This is just akward because this race is after havasu, but for the same season. technically megan cant race juniors for the 2007 season cuz of her age, so her points as a junior in panama would be "useless" i cant think of a better word. race novice and accumulate points for the 07 season! i hope someone understands that lol

I would say I have to agree with Megan not racing Junior even though she could if she wanted.

She already has 2nd in SUrf & Turf Series locked up.

If she moves up a class she will aquire points towards 2007 high points.

I am not sure if she could run beginner next year or not given she race this season as Junior and could not be classed as a Beginner then. At a regional level she may could do it but if anyone ever pushed it she might get bumped out.

Olnly problem now is, Donald may be the only 13-15 Junior racing. Who is he going to mix with? I guess maybe mix hos 2 class' with the Novice class.

I don't think we will be able to get there and ride to early on Friday. He has missed several days of school this year racing already even though his principal did excuse all 6 days he missed for WF's.

hmmmm they could both race Junior and Novice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Donald can not run Novice yet, he is only 15. We ask last year about him running Novice some and was told that if the APBA saw him registered in both Junior & Novice they could strip his Junior status & points. They also said he could not move up until he was 16. If he turns 16 mid season he can then move up to Novice and still run Junior the rest of a season as Jake Zier did this year. Donald will not be 16 until August '07 so he can step up at Nashville next year.

Now if a promoter decideds to mix his class with the Novice or Expert as has been done sometimes, then he technically is not racing them and it is OK. Then he is just racing for bragging rights.

This means we had the shadow side of the riders on the side of the cameras. Its nice to have the sun behind the camera. :banghead:I hear ya. However, I only shoot in RAW and allows post processing to bring some spice back to a flat or blown out picture.

If it was due to some blur (shutter speed under 1/125), then I usually bump the ISO to 400 minimum (ISO800 if needed).

If the riders have their backs to the sun, pull a spot meter on the face/body and shoot in "M" (manual). You risk blowing out the bright background but this can be very easily corrected if shooting in RAW.

The security guard had an "issue" with my Polaris Ranger. He first warned Garrett when he used it to get from the beach to the resort area, something about ten different people had been doing all day Friday and all day Saturday---you know: bathroom runs, parts chaser, lunch getters, jet ski hauling, etc. etc.

Garrett tells me about his warning, I go back up there later to get something from my truck, the guard working the gate opens it up and I start to head in. Barney Fife pulls his golf cart in front of my Ranger and starts hollering at me for driving this thing in again. He then proceeds to tell me I cannot and will not drive that "golf cart" on property anymore. Now, mind you, by this time at least three four-wheelers have rolled thru the gate so I ask him why they are allowed and not my Ranger. He says that golf carts are not allowed on property and he is just enforcing the rules. I was literally laughing out loud when he said that. I told him that I was a sponsor of the event and that I didn't appreciate being treated this way---he was rude AND stupid. He told me that if I didn't comply with him he would call the police. I made a phone call to a friend of mine that is the Director of Engineering and explain to him what is going on. My friend asks me the Security Guards name over the phone so I ask the guy his name----he wasn't wearing any name badge----he yells back at me "What's your name?" I told him. He responded, "I don't have to tell you my name," and storms off to his bosses office. My friend is laughing on the phone because he figured out who this idiot is and tells me he'll try to make a few calls and resolve the issue. The Security supervisor and I speak on the phone (he even complimented my Ranger) and we agree that parts runs and such are necessary, but could we keep it to a minimum. No problem.

Fast-forward thirty minutes:

Jeremy Parr said he needs gas and could we also run to Burger King. Sure---no problem. Now I have Jeremy Parr, my daughter, Tiny, and Megan on my Ranger. We go thru the gate, see this jerk, and Jeremy and I make sure to spout off some sarcastic, "Hello, how you doing?" comments and tell him we're going to get "parts". We go get what we need at my truck and head back towards the gate to go get a chair from Harrison's Avalanche. Jeremy let's out a big, "WooHoo!!!" as we ride by Deputy Fife again. We stop at Harrison's vehicle and this tool comes racing up on his golf cart bitching to me again. I got all kinds of pissed when he threatened to call the Police again and grab my wallet and tell him to call the cops RIGHT NOW because I was sick of his ******** and that we obviously needed someone with some intelligence to diffuse the situation. I asked Jeremy to just go do what he needed to while I dealt with this idiot. As soon as they left, this moron tells me that he didn't appreciate the "cat-calling" that Jeremy was doing when we went by and that he doubted whether or not we even needed to get anything from the parking area. As soon as Jeremy left, I asked him if he was going to call the Police as he threatened---his reply was that it was no longer necessary since the Ranger was now off "my property." I just called my buddy again and updated him on the situation, he laughed some more and made some calls to straighten it out. By the end of the day they said you could only bring an ATV or "golf cart" in if you were towing a ski.

There---how's everyone like that foolish story.

I talked with Steve Bailey this morning who was Edgewater's main guy who helped Mike Young put this event together. What was the guard going to look for? Gary ask him if he was going to give him a mississippi vehical inspection sticker and laughed.
