I haven't seen anything posted on Pismo from this last weekend. Did I miss something? How did it go? Who won the Freeride? Any pics? Video? Are you all in jail?

Pismo was great !. . . . . . .

We went for Saturday only . . . unfortunately . . . so I didn't get to see the carnage at the main camp Saturday night and Sunday morning ! I'm sure it was wild . . . . . . Pismo always is ! There is nothing like going to sleep with the sound of dirtbikes buzzing in the dunes and waking up and enjoying the smell of Castor927 with your morning coffee !

Saturday the weather was great, good surf, and great competition, everybody was going big for sure. . . . . .The tow surfers were insane ! I saw a guy pulling double back flips off the lip and landing cleanly on the backside ! I wish we could have been there for the finals on Sunday . . .

On another note . . . . .

We said goodbye to one of our Superjets and hello to our new SXR and I guess now I'm gonna have to hijack Chris's (Oxnard111) '98 Superjet build thread, because that hull followed us home too ! Nice of him to do all that nasty scraping off of the old Gatorgrip pads Before he sold it ! Looks like all it needs is some minor body work, sand it down paint it and layout some graphics . . . . . . . sound easy when you say it like that huh ? !

Chris, it was great meeting you and you friends . . . . . I got out to the lake for a quick ride yesterday afternoon and the SXR is great. I gotta get rid of the "beach cruiser" bars for some straight ones, but other than that I won't do much to it except ride it until the weather turns cold. Probably put a Pipe, Head and dual 46's on it this winter . . . . . .

I wasn't too happy with my run in the comp on saturday, had some boat trouble and pancaked a backflip near the beginning and trashed the ski. I ended my run having thrown just a couple things. So I pulled out the new blaster w/ 760 for some rolls.

I was getting back into the groove and had hoped to try for a BF. That 760 just has so much more snap than the old 701, and rolls were going too far. I came out of the straps on one, and came down on the gunwale (that I didn't turf due to time constraints). I came in expecting a gnarly bump and a scratch. Apparently it was worse.

Yeah, I told them they couldn't cut it. I waited for them to stich me up, and then took it off back at the hotel.

Dave it was great meeting you, Jason, and your spouses also. I'm glad you are already enjoying the SXR. I already have the engine out of your (mine now) SJ to clean up the engine compartment. I already stripped off the hydroturf so I can install a set of Wammer Rickters, but still need to remove the glue and sand it down. Everything on it is great.

To answer this q: if not in jail...are you still passed out?

only one person went to jail, and he got picked up at 3 am Sunday morn.

Tally
1. 12 stitches
2. 1 guy in jail
3. 1 custom painted hood sunk (Taylors)
4. a bunch of trucks stuck in the sand.

This weekend was a f&%*ing blast. Just got home a few hours ago.

Lots and lots of great riders and great people. It was also great to finally meet all of the OSide crew and get to hang out with everyone. BIG thanks to Lisa for everything and for making us Colorado boys feel right at home. Huge props to Joe Kenney for a great event. A lot of people were exposed to our sport this weekend, in a very positive way. Lisa, Joe, Evan, etc., did a hell of a lot of work to pull this off and without their efforts, that wouldn't have happened. Also big thanks to all of the riders that came from abroad to compete. It was great to get the opportunity to see you all ride.

And of course huge props to Mike Serlin, amazing riding this weekend.

P.S. "Havel Inverts" are NOT fun, especially when they're unintentional.

After the 28 hour drive there... put the ski in the water and ran fine for 10 minutes and died, couldnt get it running for 2 days.. cleaned carbs, replaced stator... all to find out my gas (2 weeks old) was growing algae and clogged my fuel filter. So I only got 1 decent ride in allll 4 days I was there which sucked bad. The waves were crazy, never ridden in stuff so big before and it honestly scared the $hit out of me.

I'm a pretty quiet person, so I don't get go around starting conversations usually... but there were some great people there this weekend... the entire O'Side Crew were really cool and also the Colorado folks, everyone was extremely helpful with my ski.

The competition, was insane... I watched Serlin ride pre-competition and was amazed, I didn't know he went that big and was that smooth. I was rooting for him since watching him pull the double on Friday. However, my only complaint about the comp. is when Serlin went againt Pierre Maxient in the Semis. I thought it could have been considered the Final the way both were riding, Pierre was soo smooth and never lost his boat.. he pulled a 1ft/1hand backy and 3 barrel roll re-entrys... Serlin pulled the only double barrel in the comp. in that round which I guess gave him the win, but I thought the overall routine that Pierre put up was better. It could be argued either way, so dont flame me on it.

The Final round was judged correctly in my eyes, for anyone that thought there might be biased opinions on JKenney being 'favored'.

Talking to a couple of the judges.....it was neck and neck. Mike's double gave him the edge he needed.

Thats what I thought. I wish the Final had better waves for the riders. I think Serlin could have done better, he always seemed to be on the wrong side of the beach when the sets came in.

He was definitely the biggest surprise in my mind though, never knew he was that good. Hope some of the companies noticed and gives him a decent sponsorship out of this weekend, he deserves a huge congrats.

Hola boys - just rolled in from Pismo at 5:30 this morning (Tuesday)....SO glad you all had fun and enjoyed the tasty waves/music/riding/food/and movies....and craziness. I'm whipped. I can only imagine how Joe is feeling right about now.

So much to talk about, but I have work piled up here at my day job so I'll have to get on the write up later. Just wanted to thank everyone for coming from far and wide and making the effort. I followed-up with our sponsors to see what their impression of the event was. Let me just say I'm more than elated with their impressions and I think we're on to something big here. Stay tuned.

Also want to apologize for not being able to spend more time with all of you...I was pulled in about 58 directions - all at once - AND had to cover announcing at the last minute, so I was a little out of it. And if it makes you feel any better, I *never* got to even put my ski in the water, much less ride I was so slammed. This means another ride in the very near future is in order there. But it was so well worth it.

Big up to Lisa for the great job announcing on Sunday. Also good to meet Top Sirloin and watch the show, that boy can ride!

I just got home six hours ago and I've already nailed the wife twice and gone to work :Banane01: :Banane37:

Pismo was off the hook. Serlin's double-barrell was the highlight, IMO. It dropped a lot of jaws, but Pierre was rocking it flawlessly on a back-up-to-the-back-up ski. He went so huge, it would be scary to see him on his own ski. JKenney won it all hands down though.

I wish there was more time for peeps free-riding, though. The fog sucked!!

Awesome weekend, nice to see all the socal guys again. Big thanks to Joe for putting on a great event.

I was the reason for Pierre's backup backup ski, didn't think I was going to be competing this weekend. Kinda hard to hold onto a ski with a broken hand. FYI not a good idea, it just makes things more broken.

From a stand point in the tower... those BR re-entries were only scored as BRs. They were not landed in front or on the face of the wave. So there fore they cannot be a BR re-entry. The judging was strict in this aspect. If you didnt land it and ride away, your score was not as high. The judges were all surf riders themselves and know exactly what each trick is and needs to be to be scored properly.

thank you. this over scoring in past comps needs to be addressed and it was this time. Just like a straight backie is not the same as a backie off axis, which i believe is a higher score.

PS JK won this comp fair and square and every rider after him earned their final position. So if i hear any naysayers. im flying to your house... taking names and kicking ass!!!

Most people just do a BR parallel to the wave. JK is the only person I've ever seen do an actual BR re-entry. Its a re-entry 1st and a BR 2nd.

I agree. I think the judging was great, except for that Gesicki guy. He's hurt too much to remember what riding is like, so it's kinda hard to judge it.
