What seems to be becoming somewhat of a trend....Sunday morning injury report.

Barrelroll attempt off of a boat wake. Tim Caught the bars in his top lip/nose. He was wearing a helmet. The bars got him through the opening.

Broken nose.
Pretty deep gash in his top lip (went to the ER not sure if there are stitches).
Nice cut in the end of his nose.

Those conversion boats are bloodthirsty!!!

the doc said it was a broken nose, no stiches because there was a chunk of tissue missing not a cut. my face is sore but it's not that big of a deal. I just wish I could have rode more.

Tim, While cleaning your superjet I found your missing chunk of upper lip lodged in the handlebars. I went to put it on ice for you but dropped it and my fiendish pup gulped it down. I tried to induce vomiting but no go, instead I will wait for it to come out the other end (if you still want it).

thanks for the offer saki. we might take you up on that.

the busted nose came from 2 things. poor wave/wake selection and bad form. I don't have any head movement in my rolls and that probably would save me this time. oh well, live and learn. at least I made good progress on my disco can cans.

Ouch, that must have hurt.

I was going to try and make it up there on 9:00am Sunday but the water looked like glass and I was still half asleep.

Maybe Tim could retrofit his helmet with a hockey goalie face cage to keep this from happening again.

Actually an old Hockey trick is to leave that stubble on your mug,,,pads the carnage and hides the scars,,of course if you have a blood thirsty Rotty they don't seem to care, just more ruffage in their diet when they take a hunk out of you..

There is definately a stage in the learning curve that the face is a very vulnerable spot. The motocross helmets don't seem to do much good either. I am pretty happy with the hockey helmet I started using although I haven't tested it really bad yet.......

That stage is passed when you have head control I believe. when I first started rolling I would be frozen until I hit the water. once I finally started looking under the boat the boat to start a roll I automaticly started to turn my head to spot my landing.

when I busted my nose I was looking right at the bars so they hit me square in the face. If I was spotting a landing I would have been fine even tought the ski landed on me.

This is the second face injury I have heard of while rolling, RMBC had same issue. He needs to post pics of his new helmet, it is the perfect fix I think? Hey Niel, where can we check this helmet out?

it's been more than 2 for sure. Pete poked a hole in his face and I think jerry broke his nose too.

ollies right....the 24/7's are like vampire ski's......

butti's image has gone from babyface to that of a 20 year hardened felon..all thats missing is the teardrop tatoo under his eye

sjetrider
11-10-2006, 05:16 PM
All these from roll attempts? Thats encouraging. I guess I am gonna have to wear a football helmet till I get it down pat. All I have done so far is rip the wet suit a few times which hopefully means I am keepng the bars ow enough to prevent this carnage.

nah, those 24/7 machines are roll monsters.. like tim said, he was staring at the bars.. he hit the bars.. i rolled butti's conversion on the first wave i hit, with no more than 20 seconds riding that boat altogether.. when i landed i rolled the next wave, landed it, and rolled the next wave after that.. then brought it back to the boat.. it's just technique (and sometimes just plain dumb luck)...

thats my opinion.. i'm sticking to it!

dont stare at your ski!

i gotta start taking my own advice for backies. watch slutty/pancaker/stoyer videos when they do backies, total neck reacharound.. thats what its all about right there..

Surprised you dont have the 24/7 kit yet them SAKI. Is a backy poss. on one?

oh hell yes.....

that kit was MADE to roll and flip..thats IT.

maros has one left....all carbon, I think he wants 1700 + shipping for it..its used, but he states its prefect...

he will also make you a FG one, to the tune of 1700...but thats brand new WITH steering..

i debated on buying this kit from motosurfer in the beginning...hell, I was the one that purchased it in the first place....but after riding it 4-5 times, I re-decided that Im not a fixed bar kinda guy...

So did you build both the blue one and the camo? I gotta try one in Daytona for sure.

Ha...I've done a bunch of roll attempts now, always wearing my helmet. Not once have I hit my noggin somewhere.

However, last year I nearly stabbed an eye out with my handle bars in a nose stab, and Phill busted his eardrum in a stab .
