Hey gang, like Eddie said - I know that drive is gonna be a challenge, but I SO appreciate you making the effort....way to support the sport! I'll do my very best to make sure the drive is worthwhile and you all have a great trip.

I was in Havasu last week and I can tell you Joe and I pumped the helll outta this event - people are stoked and I think it's gonna be great!

If you are coming through Sacramento, and will be arriving around 5 or so Thursday, you are more than welcome to caravan with me. Just let me know and we can meet up...makes the drive with two way radios a little more entertaining/faster.

Speaking of which......I drive like a bat outta....while towing, so be ready to roll ;)

That would be fun, but I think we're going to be coming in on I-15.

WOWIE! Just make sure if you come that way you DO NOT GO THROUGH THE GREATER L.A. AREA (unless you want to add about 3 hours+ drive time to your trip)

If I were you, (and you insist on taking I-15)...I'd head out of Vegas on 15 and catch 58 through the Tehachapi Pass, through Bakersfield and north on I-5 to Hwy 46 (Kettleman City) - then west on 46 to Paso Robles (166, 58, and 41 are narrow, winding, mountian roads I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft. pole while towing)...then go south on Hwy 101 through San Luis Obispo to the Grand Avenue exit in Arroyo Grande/Grover Beach.

Your alternate approach with much better scenery, and assistance available in case of any problems would be:

I-15 to Salt Lake City, then west on I-80 to Sacramento. South on I-5 from there to 46 (Kettleman City), over to Paso Robles, south on I-101 to Arroyoa Grande/Grover Beach (Grand Avenue exit all the way to the end/ocean)

Hope this helps....I'd feel terrible if you made this huge trek and got stuck in the middle of the desert or in horrific traffic in the LA basin.

See you in t-minus 10 days ;)

Well we don't insist on taking I-15, but from Denver, it looks like the best bet until the LA part. The bad thing about going to Salt Lake then to Sacramento and down is that it would add like 200 miles to the trip. We might be hauling Neil's 24 ft race trailer, so I'm not thrilled about 58 or 46 either. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Might also work for the Texax Crew.

From I-15 take the PALMDALE ROAD / CA-18 W exit.
Turn RIGHT onto PALMDALE RD / CA-18.
CA-18 W becomes PEARBLOSSOM HWY / CA-138 W
Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto PEARBLOSSOM HWY.
PEARBLOSSOM HWY becomes SIERRA HWY.
Merge onto CA-14 S toward LOS ANGELES.
Merge onto I-5 N toward SACRAMENTO.
Merge onto CA-126 W toward VENTURA.
CA-126 W becomes US-101 N.

Dude,

Anything near the LA basin is going to be a nightmare. The poor folks coming from southern Cali only have about 250 miles to cover, and it typically takes then 4 to 6.5 hours to make the trek....I have to be honest - I haven't been your proposed route, but still, it's well worth you while to avoid even heading over into that mess. I know 250 miles further sounds bad, but seriously, the roads are in such better shape up here, and it's a straight haul vs. mucho traffic....but your call. See the attached map for my sentiments:

So in your wise and expert advice,:hail: :hail: :hail: Option 1 is to go through Sacremento and option 2 is through Bakersfield, right?

Do you mean 58 through Tehachapi? It's not bad - I just prefer 80 as the road conditions are so much better (but it did get a light dusting of snow yesterday...then again, so did the Tehachapi)....bring chains ;)

If you meant 46, then it's still not bad -there are passing lanes and only one section that' a little narrow/winding.....you do need to pay attention for the coppers from Chalome to Paso Robles though. They like their radar guns there.

You guys can call me on my cell for specific details if you like (916) 308-7508. If you have blocked your incoming call ID I won't bother answering the call.....that's a Koe trick... But I will call you back if you leave a message. No jokes about my voicemail though - I currently sound like I've smoked a carton of ciggy's and drank a gallon of cheap whiskey - compliments of my 10 days in Havasu ;)

That path is a good one for anytime other than the morning(after 10 am).. I live near 18 and the 15... to save a little more time you can go down the 15 to the 215 west and stay on the 215 till it hits 5 north 126 west.. that will save you 30-45 minutes and keep you on the freeways.. you might hit a little traffic in ventura and santa barbara but nothing worth running 250 miles out of your way or sticking chains on..

Looks like you guys will probably want to take the same route from Barstow as we are.

58 through the Tehachapi Pass, through Bakersfield and north on I-5 to Hwy 46 (Kettleman City) - then west on 46 to Paso Robles, then go south on Hwy 101 through San Luis Obispo.

I always drag along a handful of two-way radios..makes for cheap entertainment on long road trips........

This one time (at band camp), there was about 30 of us headed to Isla Morada, FL for a ride over new Years.....we accidentally intercepted some old guy's wife calling him about lunch while he was out fishing...she wanted to know what she should have ready for him when he came in.

Of course my buddy who does great impersonations picked up and told her he wanted a raw squid with Miracle Whip sandwich...and it had better be fresh!

I almost shat myself laughing when she bought it hook, line and sinker.

I can only imagine what you could do with truckers coming through Bakersfield ;)
