So i got a hull from Edwin in So Fl. It was pretty beat up and stained /w rust on the inside, but it was a 96, so i bought it.
I started by taking off the little amounts of doohickeys (rivets, brackets, misc. junk) everywhere and then began to work magic /w the epoxy resin... i filled in the gas cap and all the holes in the hood seat where rivets were, then i took the exhaust out (the thru-hull portion)
I then cut the whole tray out (later to be glassed back in) and took out every last portion of foam /w a wire brush on an air grinder... and a shop vac...
I cut out the bottom portion of the firewall to where theres only about 2 inches left on the bottom of where water wont be flowing back to the pump cavity to be dumped out the one ways, thanks to bueno, Sergio... as well as a rear side exit exhaust.
Ive reinforced the inside sides nose and handlepole bracket /w 17 oz biax later to be covered w Carbon Kevlar... I filled in under the hood seat to keep it from flexing as well. I glassed in acorn nuts to the back of the pump cavity to bolt the pump shoe to because they were just screws that went into a chunk of glue (not very watertight at all)
The motor is a 61x on a 62t bottom, both ported... intake in it goes 48mm novi (/w custom fiberglass freestyle intake) riva single manifold, rad valves, riva spacer, trued and welded TDR crank (stock stroke) 84mm wisecos /w an ada girdled head, to a factory b limited... The motor and exhaust is powdercoated white (yeah it'll get dirty but its better than blue) oh yeah a total loss ignition too (with a secret surprise)
The superjet will be finely dressed /w an xft handlepole, bracket, hood and nosepiece combo, along with footholds... the pump is a stocker (dual cooling though) that is coated on the inside /w a low friction compound (better flow) /w a 9/17 cutback solas...
Im leaving out a lot of stuff but it should be pretty cool when its done... one of these days when i make a lot of progress on it and its not so ugly i will post more pics...
right now, all ive got for you is the altered steering cable location so it does not rub on the pump when the nozzle is in full tilt mode...
cheers:Banane01:

that is WAY cool scupperage...
but doesnt that weaken the structural integrity of the bulkhead being cut back like that?
do you have a pic of the channels that cover those in the tray area?
maybe they hold it strong enough at the back of the bulkhead.
way cool though, Ill bet those drain fast as HELL.

it actually makes it stronger, i will get a pic of the scuppage inside the tray area sometime soon... the bulkhead isnt really a part of the ski that takes a lot of beating anyways... they should drain fast as hell, the outlets are 3" each!
i can't wait to paint this thing and get it in the water

its doesnt necessarily take a beating, but the bulkhead is VERY important with regards to the structural integrity of the ski :27:

Ya really....ask Pete.

03-17-2006, 02:48 PM
idok, i know the part your talking about... thats more due to the fact that its very ridged from the foam and such there and then all of the sudden after the bulkhead its open space, i reinforced the "pancake" area after i saw what pete did to his ski... (even though i wont have much surf, once i sell this hull im sure a surf guy will want it)
update... the rear side exhaust is in... im hesitant to put the tray back in because i dont have enough room for the trim line, so until i figure that out I wont have much to show, more pics to come soon

i just did a side of CF/Orange Kevlar... all these pics are from my phone so please excuse the poor quality... I think it turned out really good, ill post some more pics when i do the bulkhead, bottom and other side...

cutting that much of the firewall would worry me a bit too! If you ever have an incident where the two couplers mesh together, it may cause some damadge
just a thought!!

yes the water will flow out quickly, but it'll flow in just as fast, especially through that big of a hole. Looks good though....

what big hole?
I laid some 17 oz biax all across the bottom and on the bulkhead to give it some extra meat... hopefully that helps... Im also going to put a layer of 6oz s-glass over that just to be a little safer...
nobody ever made these comments to raven when he did that to his hull... Whats the big idea?
BTW the inside of the back is reinforced as well, it should be fairly strong, im not worried about it breaking.

We really couldn't follow his thread closely, it was like 86 pages long
I think youre bulkhead will be fine, as long as you foamed behind it.
Did you weigh it before and after? Which foam did you use?
AIRICCC
03-29-2006, 12:31 AM
I havent foamed it yet... i bought 2lb for it though, i dont really see the need for 4 lb foam either and here is my reasoning.
1.) I reinforced the rear of the ski
2.) I did a test run on 2 lb foam, used a small amount and filled up a 2.5 quart mixing bucket. I pulled the foam out and jumped on it and it didnt break. The stock foam is soft and compressible, much softer than the 2 lb, by far.
IMO 4 lb is overkill for my application.
Im gluing the tray back in tomorrow, then im going to go to the florida keys to do some deep sea fishing and spend some time with my lovely new girlfriend. Then im going to foam it when i get back and paint it, then ill have to put the motor together and then trailer it to Lanier.
Edwin, do you like what ive done with it so far? It has come a long way :Banane01:
AIRICCC
03-29-2006, 06:59 PM
well, im going out to the warehouse to glue the tray back in tonight... hopefully all goes well... im going to go to menards first and buy about 8 c-clamps... then return them tomorrow when its cured...

i dont have the time or money to paint it /w a real gun... its getting a rattle can job for now... this way i wont be too worried about ruining it... if parts were free this ski would have been done the day i started on it, but im a broke college student, ive got two jobs and a girlfriend too... i dont have much time... ill post pics when the paint is dry

This stuff is time consuming! anyways, its coming along... i figured i would post a few more updated pictures for your enjoyment, i know nobody really cares about this build thread and i blame that on myself... heres something exciting though... I am now the proud owner of the new x7 trim system from xft... The only american to have one, cool huh? check out the throw on this baby! (pic attatched) This thing is almost ready for assembly... good!

That nozzle is sweet. Is the end anodized?

Sweet nozzle...
Will be interesting to hear how it performs and holds up.

That nozzle is sweet. Is the end anodized?
it has interchangeable rings for the steering and reduction nozzles... steering can be longer and reduction nozzle can change diameter...

im going to repaint it, when i foamed it i tried to cover up the hole /w my hand so that it would go everywhere inside rather than splooge out the top.... well, there was plenty in there and it freakin exploded and shot foam on my shirt (the same one i wear everytime i work on my ski so its no big deal) and on my paint... Im actually going to use a primer this time and try to do it right though... I changed my mind about not caring. Hull is almost done, i just got the cylinders back from the machine shop today... there isnt much meat left on those sleeves at all! Ill take some pictures soon

do you have pics of inside ur foam area, my memory is failing me on the scuppers and i didnt see em on XFTonline. PM me on pricing of the scupper tunnels and side exhaust if ya have a sec. gracias.

I didnt take a picture, you can look on darins website at the 91 square to round build from raven1969, he glued his to the inside though, you are suppose to glue it to the outside of the firewall... thats why he sectioned his (he thought it was too short) prices on tunnel scuppers are as follows
261.25 for pure fiberglass ones
306.00 for 50/50 glass and carbon
340.00 for pure carbon...
the fiberglass ones weigh about 2 ounces more than the carbon ones... they come with the tunnels and both scupper valves anodized in your favorite color, its a nice price... they are designed for his hulls so they dont fit exactly (pump cavity on serg's hulls is wider towards the rear and the hull tapers upwards more so there is a gap back there, which is easy to cover up if you can lay glass)
If you do get those wait for me to help you do the install because theres a few tricks i learned about it.
Hang in there Eric. Great build thread. You've got an awsome ski in the making. I know how you feel. My fx1 build is frustratingly slow because I can't sell my superjet. I'll be watching with interest, maybe even steal some ideas.

well, i bought a set of case bolts from mike and now my new ones from yamaha came in... good... the motor goes together this weekend...
nice!! keep at it!!! your further than I am on my fx....i think im at that "not caring" point...
Nice footholds, that will be a super nice hull once you are done.
with all the work you have done so far, I'm glad to see you are going for some real paint.

yes, it will be ridden before then... building a custom ski takes a lot of time, a lot more time than i had gauged for... the pump is in, the motor is built... i pretty much just need to install everything... i lent my waterbox to zach so he needs to get me a new one before i can install my gas tank, and i dont have waterbox straps and im missing a fuel tank strap... im having a hard time installing the pump bolt closest to the shoe on the opposite side the steering cable is on... i need a socket cap M10x1.25 because i cant fit a socket in for the regular hex bolt... mcmaster doesnt even have it though... its annoying....

im going to go riding sunday btw... it may be on zach/erik's skiis and i may wakeboard too but ill be at the lake, come up...

here are a few pics of the superjet... its getting there... this is expensive and takes a long time... the first two show the throw of the trim, the hull needed to be clearanced for this... the rest is self explanitory... this thing is k for kustom

So in the end, should you have bought something already done up? I suppose it would have been much cheaper, huh? This thing looks like your old SXI you built up.
