Beach Services/Beach Patrol
Zone - A
The PWC zone will be in the same place as last year.
http://www.volusia.org/beach/jetskimapnb1.gif
Cardinal Avenue Approach , Ormond Beach
All rules and regulations are listed on this site. You will be resposible for your own actions. This is a NON-EVENT.
When you purchase your 25$ pass to ride, you are accepting all risks involved w/ riding in the surf and all liability is yours...
Anyone tries to sue my Beach, I will hunt you down and kill you. You can take that to the bank. So in other words, be reponsible
and ride at your own risk. Also, everyone will be required to buy a pass this time, no sneaking under the radar. If you do think you are
too good to pay, or it's not a big deal... IT IS. If you get hurt and don't have proper papers, you could be responsible for ending these freerides...
We all have to follow the simple regulations that Beach Services asks us to abide by... Sorry if that comes off harsh, but I have to protect my beach.

Damn.... I just went down and secured the discount this morning. I didn't think you guys would be that quick. Just call them back later on today and let them know you are w/ the "Daytona Freeride" and they will refund you the difference.
The Discount Rates:
Oceanfront - $69
Inside - $59
mention
"Daytona Freeride"
I also spoke w/ Beach Patrol this morning and they are 100% on board w/ everything I want to do. They even requested to me that we WIDEN the zone to make it safer for everyone... I think that shows their willingness to work with us and accomodate a large group. Of course donating a couple G's doesn't hurt the campain. Remember to read all the requirements for riding the "beach zone"

some facts about last year and some things to expect this year... I had a lot of people that didn't know what to expect so I'm trying to give those who didn't come last year an idea of how this will probably go....
180+ attendees
120+ riders
15+ sponsors (were responsible for product, services, that funded the raffle)
45+ rooms rented (Makai Hotel)
Host hotel is located directly in front of riding zone and right next to a Lifeguard tower and beach approach for those who want to drive onto the beach. Hot tub is located in between the two buildings (perfect spot)http://www.orbitz.com/hotelimages/909/45909/110270/AMEN1-20060809-114024-018.jpg
This section of the beach allows vehicle traffic, no ATV’s or any unregistered vehicles allowed.
Charity Raffle raised 2000$ for Junior Lifeguard Program / VolusiaCounty beach services.
Write ups in several online publications and printed publications, including Ride, and Jet Waves (French publication), giving even more exposure to sponsors.
Featured event in the www.X-h2O.com (http://www.x-h2o.com/) Freeride tour. This event kicks off the freeride tour !!!
We have off duty rescue personnel, paramedics on hand the entire ride and are offering their services for free.
We will have professional photographers/videographers on site capturing all the action and carnage 50ft lifeguard Tower will be accessible for filming and photos.
I will be alerting the local TV news and newspapers of the event.
No injury reports or arrests involved w/ this event last year. All positive. (lets keep it that way) :woot:

Sticking with tradition, there will be no real structure to this Freeride. You can pretty much ride when you want (between 9am-5pm) without having to be anyplace for anything... The only thing that I would like you to attend is the Charity Raffle and that will be tenatively scheduled for Saturday at 5pm EST I will let you know if that changes. I might have to bump it back 30 min or so, but just plan for that. The sponsors will be donating some great stuff, so don't miss out on the possibility of getting some swag, parts, or even work done to your motor maybe???? he he he... I believe we will auction off the larger priced items like we did last time.
Thanks - Nick

yeah, i did, got 3 nights oceanfront @ 69/night .. you have to mention the "jetski freeride thing" thats what i did. ;-)
when you call and get the first menu, i think it's option #2 that you're part of a 'group event'
I did the whole option #2 group event rate, mentioned the Freeride, and was promptly told that it would be $109 per night. I inquired about the special rate, but was told that she couldn't do anything about that. I reserved them anyway for ocean front, first floor---but was told there was no guarantee on the first floor assignment.
I think part of the problem is that the number we are calling is a reservation only number for somewhere around 20+ motels in the area. I assumed I would be calling the Makai direct.

you can ask to speak w/ them directly at the Makai... I recomend You do that, since the reservation people are not handling it correctly.
I'm very sorry for the confusion. I will call Lisa and get this worked out.

Just a quick question for you guys. I don't even like asking, but all I got is my 550, and I wanna come out and play with the big dogs (will see if I can't work out a deal to maybe find a sj down there, or the way down there, or at least the way back)
Anyhow, my question is if I smash the hell out of my ski, is there going to be a way to get 550 stuff down there, or should I try to bring as much backup parts as I can, even if that means leaving behind extra clothes/car ride snacks/etc...????
And the side question, will I be the only 550 out there?
WaveDemon
10-02-2006, 07:29 AM
you will be the only 550. bring as many parts as you can if you are worried about keeping it running.
There was a 3d there last year and a 550 is much more 'acceptable' than that.
Just show up, with or without a ski. I'd let you ride my SJ, as would alot of others I think.

whats the weather like in daytona that time of year?
Others can comment more on actual temps, but based on last year there were people riding in everything from just board shorts to layered wetsuits. One day was quite warm and then the next was cooler and quite windy which made it seem much cooler. I think the water will be around the mid 60's and on average the daytime air temps should be around the same or a little lower.

Last year we went to sarasota for x-mas and i surfed most of the week. The west coast actually had waves:arms: . Anyways it was like 80's in the day and 60's @ night. In the water i had a shorties wetsuit on and could go for about 4 hrs before i had to get out because my lips and knuckles were completely purple and i was shaking like crazy.:banghead:

DAMMITALL! I have appearntly been stuck in a time warp...was over in the 2006 thread......wondering why there was no chit chat about this gig.
I think I'm coming in on Thursday mid day and flying home either Monday or Turesday...regardless, I'm there! Nice job on the sponsorships Nick.....now if we can just talk some of these guys into not be in such babies about a little cooler weather...LOL!
I have an extra, brand spankin new JP 2/3mil farmer john wetsuit - I think it's a men's large - if someone needs a suit. I could probably be talked into parting with it for a few comp'ed cocktails?

Well it's confirmed the four of us from the Bay Area in California are heading east to the Daytona Beach Moto/Surf Freeride (with 5 SKIIS). I've already talked to Taylor, but if anyone else out there wants to go let me know. After talking with Paul at LPW, he motivated me enough to make this crazy 3000 miles drive with my three buddies... Can't wait to make new friends and ride in warm clear blue water....

I was there 2 years ago & there were a few idiots without helmets that had never been there before. They left the beach & came back with construction hats that they'd bought somewhere. Beach patrol let them go out. I think they also had those standard orange life vests that you find on most row boats. It made for a good laugh.

last year we lined all the ski's up at the top of the seawall. everyone just took turns using the hose and someone's (wasteland i think) pisser flush kit. we left the ski's on the sea wall over night.

Those of us with ground floor beach front rooms will guard the skis for a small fee :sneaky:
Actually, everyone needs to remember the sea turtle exclusion zone: you can't pull beach carts right up to the wall - you have to carry the skis the last 20 feet. Go grab a corner of anyone's ski you see being toted up there, and you're sure to have all the help you need when it's your turn. Those skis sure are heavy after a day's surf riding...

I called and was told that there is a third hotel that is under renovation.
The wife isn't too happy and is threatening to shut this trip down so can someone recommend a hotel in the area that doesn't have any construction going on ?
It doesn't have to be on the beach, just close.
Why do I do this to my self every time ??
