View Full Version : Question:'87 Kawi SX300 ignition problems

I have just aquired a free Sx 300. the engine was garbage so i bought a used one on ebay. The problem is im not getting any spark from the box. The box looks imaculate inside. Not sure whats wrong. I have pics if you need.

Well I guess it would be a good time to get the ohm meter out and do some testing...

I don't have the numbers that they should be reading at, but if they arn't in your book, maybe they are in mine, or maybe someone knows and will post them up.


Then replace the part that is making it poopy.

i'd like to find out the problem first before i buy a new one, but ill keep ur offer in mind

most likely it is the stator that is bad not the electrical box. you can test it with an ohm meter. i think i have an old kawasaki book that gives the specs for that stator i will see if i can find it tommorow.

ok that would be great if you can give me some numbers. That would suck if its the stator cause the guy i bought it from(the engine) said it runs needs nothing.

disconnect the two halves of the 4-prong plug. select the rx 100 ohm scale on the meter. connect the red meter lead to the red male prong. connect the black meter lead to the black male prong. it should read between 168-252 ohms.

this is while the engine is turning over?

no. that is the resistance it does not even need to be installed in the ski to test it and get those numbers.

well i got nothing but i checked the ohms on the one in a junk motor i had and it was good so i swapped them and shes runnin like a beaut...thanks man just one more favor..can you test the other wires that charge the battery to make sure thats working too?
