This thread is for the riders from the Pacific Northwest.
Wiki defines that regions as" an area that includes part of the west coast of United States and Canada, including southeast Alaska, all of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana and northern California and Nevada."

Feel free to make suggestions otherwise.

I'll start with myself....Name's Matt, I am in Colfax, WA.
I ride mostly in the Snake river, and the Columbia river (some).
I gots 2 Superjets.:Banane01:
Here's a couple pics from my regular riding spot. It sucks.
Most often, I'll be below the damn, right by that marina.
On Weekends, I usually go above the dam, as it's much warmer water.

Not really a NW Rider any more but here are the places I miss riding...

1. Vantage, WA... Closed for camping now, but was a party place to ride.
2. Lake Sammamish... Was 15 minutes away from my house.
3. Lake Washington... Coulon Park PWC course near Boeing plant.
4. Snake River... Brings back WSU JS550SX memories.
5. Hood River... Fresh water waves and fun night life.
6. Lake Tapps... Official sign summer was coming.
7. Lake Chelan... Official sign summer was here.
8. Willamette River... Portland is a fun city.
9. Lake Coeur d'Alene... Golf and skiing!
10. Richland, WA... Raced a couple of times. Met a lot of cool NW riders.

Honorable Mention:
*** Westport, WA... It was cold but fun.
*** Moses Lake... Sand dunes and skis.

I miss the NW summers, but love the AZ winters.

Matt - Living in Colfax? Is it still the speed trap capital of E. WA? I had a local cop pull me over for 3 mph over in downtown. He let me off with a stern warning. :rolleyes:

Evan here in Tacoma. I get out to Lake Steilacoom in Lakewood quite a bit; heading to American Lake after work today; I ride on Hood Canal near Belfair a lot too. One of these days I'll hit up the Narrows under the bridges (8 knot tides, plenty of big boats.)

Hey guys. Just wonding if anyone knows where I can find, in Seattle, some of the generic under turf foam mat that people say is from Home Depot. Been to 2 Home Depots and many other stores in search, but can't find them. To be exact, they are the 1" grey foam pads with an interlocking edge about 2'x2' that comes 4 to a pack. Need to get this thing turfed by next weekend.

Thanks,

DBLOCK
11-13-2006, 10:32 PM
Latex seals can be purchased online - $25 for a large.

Get yourself a can of contact cement. Replace the seal yourself - I'll talk you through it if you haven't done it before.

Matt_E
11-13-2006, 10:36 PM
Excellent! Where do you get the seal for 25?

Ebay has had them.

DBLOCK
11-13-2006, 11:28 PM
I've just driven to the nearest dive shop... I haven't looked on ebay.

It's easy to replace a seal. You can do a search for OS Systems (might even be able to order glue and seals from them) for decent instructions. Here's the link for you:
http://www.ossystems.com/repair/repr.htm

For a neck seal, you'll need some sort of a form to shape the top of the suit. I use one of my wife's large glass bowls.

Use heat to soften the glue, then peel the old seal off (I'm assuming you have latex to start with).

I use some acetone to scrub the neck area, then lay the new seal into position. Once you have the bottom of the seal positioned exactly, roll the bottom of the seal back to expose the top of the neck area on the suit, and the bottom underside of the seal. Some people sprinkle talcum powder on to the top side of the seal before rolling it to keep things from sticking - I never have.

With the seal rolled up (not rolled tightly, just peeled back to expose the underside), apply one thin layer of cement to the underside of the seal, and the matching top side of the neck area on the suit. Wait until tacky, then apply a 2nd layer. Sound familiar? It's just like gluing on hydro turf...

When the 2nd layer of glue gets tacky, roll the seal down and use a roller (you can get a cheap one from any hardware store - just look where they have wall paper or trim) to roll out any bubbles. Let set for a while and you're set.

Good luck,

Matt_E

So, did you find a seal for $25 from any of the sources I recommended?

I haven't replaced mine in at least 1 1/2 years so was just quoting from memory (maybe it was the wrist seals that were $25)...

There are other options too, you can convert to a neoprene neck or wrist seal too, or even add dry gloves to your suit (but this can get a little spendy)

Matt_E
11-17-2006, 12:25 AM
I have a brand-new seal coming tomorrow, from OSS.
It was 31 dollars.

I think Crab saw the black/white/bloody SX at the river. The green/orange one was stolen about 3 weeks after it was finished. I only rode it about 3 times.
If you ever see a square with a roundnose pole go look at the bottom, if there is a 2' by 3' patch of kevlar on the bottom it's mine.

I appreciate the comments on the paint. I have a good number of pictures of my latest projects on myspace:

Just thought I would give a heads-up to Matt and Snackem: if you remembered from Long Beach, I mentioned I will be in Pullman for graduation next month. I'm not sure yet if my schedule will work, but I might be down to go hit up the Snake that Saturday afternoon. Are y'all in town then? (May 5)

I thought this would be a good place for a heads up on local "For Sales"...

http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/boa/332539279.html

Looks like a 440 (or is that a 650? I don't know my Kawis too well) and 550 in Bonney Lake. $1 ? I guess that means make an offer. That 550 has a race number on the side, may have been a pretty fast boat once.

Like I said, just a heads up. Have a Nice Day.

New regulations in WA.

It has been mandatory for a while to carry your vessel registration with you. This can be a bit difficult on smaller skis.
This year, the State is giving out registrations that have a credit card size "mini registration" as a cutout on it. They say to laminate it and keep it on your vessel.
I plan on attaching some velcro to it and the underside of my hood and keep it there.

Also, starting on 1/1/2008, anyone under the age of 20 will need a boater license to operate any vessel over 15HP.
There are some exceptions, such as a 60 grace period when you buy a new/used boat, or for non-residents, etc.

Info directly from the Parks website:

Mandatory Boating Safety Education
Information Sheet - July 2005

Mandatory Boating Safety Education is now a reality for Washington Boaters. Starting in January 2008, boaters 20 years old and under will need to have their cards with them when operating a boat. State Parks is currently implementing the process for approval of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) that will define how the program will operate. Meanwhile, everyone has questions and this sheet is provided to answer as many of these questions as possible at this time.

1. Is this card a license?

No, the education card is a one-time requirement and cannot be taken away from the operator nor does it have an expiration date.

2. When will I need to have a card?

Here is how the program will be phased in:

January 1, 2008 - All boat operators twenty years old and younger;
January 1, 2009 - All boat operators twenty-five years old and younger;
January 1, 2010 - All boat operators thirty years old and younger;
January 1, 2011 - All boat operators thirty-five years old and younger;
January 1, 2012 - All boat operators forty years old and younger;
January 1, 2013 - All boat operators fifty years old and younger;
January 1, 2014 - All boat operators sixty years old and younger;
January 1, 2015 - All boat operators seventy years old and younger;
January 1, 2016 - All boat operators over 12 years will be required to have a card.
Persons born before January 1, 1955 are exempt.

State Parks is planning to start making cards available in the spring of 2006 for persons who have already taken courses approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and State Parks.

3. Do I have to wait to get my card until the year it is required?

No. If you are otherwise eligible, you may apply for a card in the spring of 2006. Watch for further information on when the applications will be available on our website: http://www.parks.wa.gov/boating.asp in the spring of 2006.

4. Do I have to get a card if I was born before 1955?

You do not need a card if you were born before 1/1/1955, but you may choose to get a card if you will be boating in Canada or Oregon since they do not have any age group exempted. You may also choose to get a card to help support the state mandatory education program.

5. Who does not have to get a card?

The following persons have been exempted from the requirement to have an education card:
1. A commercial fisherman licensed by the Washington State Dept. of Fish and Wildlife but you must carry a copy of your valid commercial license with you.
2. A person with a valid marine operator license issued by the Coast Guard when operating a vessel authorized by the Coast Guard license but you must carry a copy of your valid marine operator license with you.
3. A person who is operating a vessel exempt from vessel registration, but they must have a card when operating a private or recreational vessel.
4. A person who is renting, chartering or leasing a motor-driven vessel, but they must complete a check list of operating instructions, equipment operation and safety information.
5. A person who is not a Washington resident and who does not operate a vessel for more than 60 consecutive days in Washington.
6. A person who is not a resident of Washington and has an out-of-state card or certificate that is equivalent to courses approved by the Commission.
7. The purchaser of a newly purchased boat may use the bill of sale as a temporary document to operate a vessel for 60 days after purchase. Bills of sale must show date of sale and must be carried by the operator. A vessel registration may also be used for the same 60 day period.
8. A person is accompanied by and is under the direct supervision of a person who is at least 16 years old and who either has a boating education card or is not yet required to posses a card. See schedule of phase-in above for exact years when age groups are required to have cards.
9. A person of any age who is practicing for or engaged in a permitted race event.
10. A person who is not yet required to have a card.

6. How will people take classes to meet the requirements for a mandatory education card?

State Parks will review and approve courses that meet requirements as set forth in the law. Both for profit and non-profit businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate as course providers. The primary providers of courses must meet the standards set by the Commission including the approval of NASBLA, who have set the national standards for boating safety education. Some local law enforcement agencies may also choose to provide training classes for boaters.

People will have the opportunity to take classroom courses, on-line courses, home-study courses and proctored challenge exams to complete their requirements.

7. How can people find out where to take a class?

First, each business or organization will certainly want to advertise their classes. Then, State Parks will do our best to put the information on when, where and who to contact provided to us by any approved course providers on our webpage at http://www.parks.wa.gov/boating.asp after January 1, 2006. If you are a course provider, you will want to keep our agency up to date on your class schedules.

State Parks plans to provide opportunities for boaters to take challenge exams at boat shows and non-profit organizations and other providers may also arrange with State Parks to sponsor times when boaters can take challenge exams.

8. How much does a card cost?

When you first complete an application for a card, there is a $10 fee. If you lose or damage your card, or for some other reason need to get a card replaced, there will be a $5 fee for the replacement.

EvanB85

Well, I guess I'm good until 2010. Of course I will probably wait until News Years Eve 2009.

Actually, screw you guys, I'm going to get a marine operator licencse, then register my ski with Coast Guard. Then I'll get a VHF radio too.

As far as registration goes though, I did not get a small credit card type thing. I usually make a copy and laminate and just tape it somewhere inside. I've never had to show it, so I don't know if a copy is ok or not.

Anyways, thanks for the info Matt.

Just doing my good neighborly (is that a word?) duty. There are a couple of really tempting '96 RNs on craigslist right now. Super clean stocker for $2600 in Port Orchard, and a decently set-up rec/race ski for $3300 in Puyallup. I've imposed a personal SuperJet Spending Moratorium, otherwise I think I might be all over these.

And for those of you headed to Lincoln City this weekend, happy brapping.

Hey I'm Brian

I live in Vancouver during the sumer and Pullman during the school year

Favorite place to ride is launch at Ridgefield then go out to the columbia by St. Helen where all the freighters and barges are. Only down side is that the pigs are pricks.

Also, (illegal) but it is really fun to ride out on Vancouver Lake cause they have the crew course laid out and the Feldia boat launch is min's from my house.

Portco and merwin also commonly visited

in fact ill be back in Vancouver and trying to ride this Saturday let me know if you want to join it would be fun to meet others and In the future it would be nice to get a crew going in this area because my buddies are all getting out of the sport and I know tons of people have to be ridding around the area.

To be honest, there aren't any "great" places to ride near Pullman.
There's the Snake river - a few places upstream from Lower Granite Dam are decent, but no boats for wakes.
There's Boyer marina below the damn, but I don't like it that much.
My favorite up there was Lake Cour'D'Alene (Sp?) and Dworshak.

As you know its 2 blocks to the beach, can't get any closer. Years past it had been a bit rowdy there, so I assured him we would keep the ski's quiet as possible and no riding in the flooded grass.

Not sure about Tierra since its 7 hours away, any chance we could do Longbeach? We havn't been there in a long time and I should be able to get 3 or 4 from up here to go down there and do an overnighter at the Super8 motel.

7? how? 2.45 to Portland and 1.50 to PC. One stop for 20 and you are only at 5 hrs. Ya 5 is a lot to me but 7? We got to get you to scoot a little faster - You could be in Gearhart no stops in 2.5 to p town and 1.5 to Gearhart. My math says 4 to Gearhart. What am I missing? Then again I make it to pismo in under 13 and were you not like 20 or something? Crab- the left lane is faster-

Who would do a something like ride in the flooded grass? :smile:

The fun part is seeing who can get a better run onto the grass and almost hitting the guy with the camcorder.

I thought the time in Westport with the pit bikes was more rowdy than the J house.

Same as PC- Huge beach, big long shelf, back sets good but there is actually some venture riding. We go five minutes to the cove and ride some killer sets, estuary back to little beach and the big seaside turn around are fun too. Hungry? amazing chowder and you can ride to get a slice of pizza if wanted.

Its more of the north coast but you know all the riders will be at PC when you come in. Gearhart is probably not for you guys. I like it cause I have a buddy's to stay at and a killer golf course, brew pub and way better fresh seafood. Plus from my front door its an hour fifteen-

In case anyone is wondering about the early spring rides, they tend to be the most fun since we are all chomping at the bit to be out there rain or shine. In the past we have had great turnouts and lousy weather....but you never know, sometimes 70 degrees and sunny as well. http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=206582&page=9

I would love to join up in March but will be gone. Looking forward to April to get out and ride. Hopefully be able to meet some of you. Of course, all dependent on getting the new ski put together. Problem is, I will never be able to do it justice like PancakePete did. Oh well, at least it will stay looking nice then.

What year?

Title & VIN?

It's a 97'. Registered in North Dakota which is a non-title state. I have aclean bill of sale and have it registered. As for the VIN plate, the guy who installed the scupper removed the VIN plate from the ski for the outlet (don't ask).

Nice 24/7 4 handhold hood, AC -2 pole and bracket, new blowsion chip pad though. In addition it has footholds, the 24/7 scupper.

Spokane river and Wawawai launch on the Snake river last week, Marysville a couple times and the Payette down by Boise. The Snake was boring as usual, but I was just tuning so I didn't care. I usually ride on the Snake in Lewiston so at least I get some boat wakes. Everywhere else was a blast.

Hey guys! New to the site and the sport. I picked up a 750 sxi last season and couldn't get enough! Been slowly putting some select AM parts on it this off season. Can't wait to dial it in.

Anyways I thought I'd check in as I'm a fellow PNW. I'm just north of Seattle, but ride at Moses Lake almost every weekend between Memorial and Labor Day (my folks have a place on the lake). If you're ever over there, stop by for a beer and a ride, you can't miss it!

My folks have a place on the lake and i'll be there all weekend. We're across from the I-90 bridge to the north. Hard to miss, there should be a seaplane out front on a boat lift (if the weather is decent). You can either put in at the park, or we have a launch at our place. PM if you'd like.

Most of the Northwest activity is in Seattle, Portland, northern Oregon beaches (mainly Pacific city) and the beaches near Gray's harbor, WA. Don't think we have many folks near you.

We had a lot of events worth driving to last year. One thing you sure don't want to miss is Surf Slam:
