So, im riding last Sat.
busted my leg on a poor landing.
Ive been limping around, it is slightly discolored, and very swollen.
could it be broken?
I hate to go wait 3 hours to get an Xray and them say its just a bruise.
but ive never before had swelling for this long either.
would it be possible for me to walk on it if its slightly cracked?, its my shin the Tibia bone.
it hurts, and is VERY sensative to pressure, but I can walk on it, but it does hurt to move my foot back and forth ( like working a gas pedal)
any ideas?
should I wait another day or so and see what happens? this was my initial plan, and it hasnt changed.
post a pic, most likely a hematoma...

I broke my ankle going over the bars on a dirt bike (didn't know it at the time), it swelled up big time, but I rode again the next day. The following Monday I was limping around work, finally decided to get an x-ray thinking I had torn something. Doc comes back & says report for surgery tomorrow morning.  Turns out I had broken one of the ball ends off the bottom of the leg bone.:banghead: (Sorry IDOK no medical terms).
SO, I'd say get it x-rayed.

well speaking for expreanice you can walk with hair line fractors it is sensitive an hurts best thing would be get the x-ray and find out if it is still hurting that bad. if that is not a opinon I reccommend a bottle of Jack ever few hours :)_
I am missing most of my right tibua and have had three hairline fractors so I have some idea when you say "PAIN":(

sorry guys and gals, I didnt even think of the carnage section.
I just placed a call to my doc, Ill see if i can get in today for an xray.
after several beers I can walk just fine, but when IM sober, im limping.
pics barely show the swelling, my legs are skinny anyway.
you can really tell down around my sock right at the cuff, there is like an inch tall lip where the swelling stops at the sock.
its sort of gross.
if youre leg is broken, i DOUBT you'd be able to walk....
yes, a hematoma is a fancy word for a big and nasty bruise....

thats what im thinking...
its sort of a greenish yellow color.
it got purple right after it happened, then I put ice on it, and drank beer the rest of the day.
its not REALLy discolored much though. just pale yellow/green tinge.
wife is on the phone with doc office right now, trying to see if I can get it on today.
im playing hookey from work, I figured I might as well go get an Xray.

I was ABLE to walk with both of my broken ankles, but it still hurt like hell...
My vote is to get it checked out---you may damage it more and require more downtime if you don't.

Go get it checked. I broke mine last year - took some pain killers and rode for another two days at Lanier, and then loaded up a bunch of skis, drove home and went back to work. After my friends convinced me to go and get it looked at I found out that it was broken, and the doctor freaked out about me standing on it because of the further damage I could do (I didn't mention the big-air nose stabs...!). I ended up in a full leg brace for two months. Don't mess with it....

back from X-ray.
NOT broken, doc said a hematoma ( you nailed it IDOK)
the Xray showed some swelling, doc said to heat it, and the blood would re-absorb.
he said the old practice was to get a needle in it, and drain it, but that current thoughts are that opens too much potential for infection.
so im still limping, and trying to figure out how to tape a microwave to my leg.
thanks for the advice guys and gals.

"intracranial I would assume right? ( for the still done needle draw thing)"
well if the hematoma is ever in a way going to effect the integrity of the surrounding tissue they will drain it, subdural hematoma's may just be watched or if for somereason it gets to big and causes a shift in the brain matter they will drain it
but usually it is just left to be reabsorbed

alas...
im simply one of the crowd.
drowning in my own fluids, as I wait for them to re-absorb.
its swelling worse!
now that I know it isnt broken, I was back at work kicking it, then went to the bar, kicked it some more.
im all good...

:biggthumpup:Well, SWEETIE, in theory it should work. Alcohol thins the blood, so it's got to be good in aiding the absorption of your big fat hemo:cheer:

Suzi had a huge hematoma on her thigh after getting kicked in the leg by a horse - that thing was nasty! It's still slightly swollen after two years - doc says it may never completely go away. I have another friend with a hematoma that never totally went away - after 20 years  Sometimes a nice clean break is better - at least I can predict cold fronts now

i busted my leg in the inlet. rode a bit more iced it on the beach then loaded up. 6 hrs later i couldnt walk at all. i was casted up for 12 wks and i still got bone frags in my ankle, point of the story i would get it checked so the future doesnt look so grim. or maybe just keep poundin beers, good luck

I crunched my ankle while a Daytona in January at the inlet the first day. It swelled up, turned pretty colors, and hurt like hell. I could walk on it but no more riding. Crown Royal was my best friend for a few days. I limped around for a few weeks and it finally felt normal after 6-8 weeks. From now on I will keep my feet in the footholds :banghead:

I am no longer limping, and the swelling and yellow/greenish color has gone away.
but there is still a mouse sized hump on my shin, from reading whats posted here, that may hang around a while.
and yes, I was riding barefooted in a boat with no holds.
when Im wearing sandels or shoes, I dont slip.
a wakeboard boat full of GIRLS in BIKINIS, slowed down and made me some good wakes.
and of course, I got carried away and did a psuedo superman, landing on the rear of the ski on my shin.
I never let go of the bars, but I did ride back to the dock on ONE foot.
